Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I have Ursula outside this afternoon - she is trying her best to take advantage of the sandy spot to try to get a dust bath. She is trying to stand a little more. She has a long ways to go.

Thanks for the photo and update on Ursula. I hope she continues to get stronger every day!

Ursula laid her first egg today. We're afraid to eat it - probably tastes like cat food, LOL.

Recovery continues at a snails pace. She can stand for longer periods. Like a whole minute now .

That is wonderful! Go Ursula! Thanks for sharing. I have been wondering how she was doing.

Ursula laying an egg is a good sign IMO.

Fuzziecreatures, I appreciate you posting your necropsy. I know it means a lot to quite a few people here. It's difficult aside from that to get a solid education on Marek's.

When I previously said that Ursula was standing, it was really more I her lifting up on her haunches. She has made dramatic progress this week and is truly standing now. She can stand on one leg and scratch her face with the other foot, but she cannot support her full weight on the other leg, so is not walking yet.

Thinking about putting her back in the coop, in a dog crate. If not this weekend, then next.

I'm so glad for her! My rooster I was posting about this Jan/Feb is now standing, walking, running, mounting the hens, and being a rooster! There is hope. He still walks a bit stiffly but can get around and even get on and off the roost by himself these days.

Hey everyone, just wanted to check in. All my birds are doing wonderful, even the ee with the crazy walk. She walks and scratches like normal now. Not really sure what the problem was, but all doing good. Had 6 eggs hatch under mama with the funky eye, 3 pullets laying and 3 Roos, all doing well. My turkeys did end up being bbb's though. So time is coming to an end for him. We culled the hen last week due to mating injury, she was 37 lbs. yikes!!! He will be very soon. It seems as though he hurt himself as well. He has a slight limp now. Just waiting on dh to do the deed.

Hope all is going well for everyone and wanted to thank everyone for all the help.

Hi, new to this and have a lot of questions, as I ve had a couple of silkies with paralysis,
-if an individual shows symptoms in a flock of 15 how often can symptoms appear in other ones, I mean is it normal that you get a rooster with problems and no other shows symptoms till several months, even almost a year after that?
-I had a rooster with leg paralysis and after 3 months decided to cull him, too much suffering for him and my children, how long can they survive when paralysis appears?
-Can a hen have paralysis and the chickens kept with her in the same coop have no signal of the disease and grow up, or would be more likely some of them will show symptoms and die?

Sorry if silly questions but Im really concerned about this and tryin to figure out if my flock could have Marek, anyway I will read this whole thread to get as much info as possible, also would appreciate suggestion on related readings, threads or forums.
