Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

Dont feel stupid!  drugs.com (vet) says treat with 2 grams per 4 liters which is roughly 1/2 teaspoon per gallon.  Tylan is pricey.  The good thing is you can store the mixed solution in the fridge for 3 days.

1/2 cc is for injectable
I know. I have a duck pond, and the chickens don't drink from any waterer, so I have to feed it to them directly. I was going to go the oral route with the dosage of injecting. Just didn't know if that was reliable. And yes, I'm WELL aware of how pricey it is. Lol

With Tylan 50 I give .6 cc orally twice a day. I read it isn't utilized as well when given orally, so giving too much isn't an issue. It tastes nasty, so you have to tube it or try putting in on bread or something that will hide the taste. I have a couple of birds that will eat it on bread. The rest of them have to be force fed.

How long do you give it?

Usually 5 days, but I will go as long as 7 if I think they need it longer. If the tylan is working you will see improvement in 1 - 2 days, but give it for 5 just to kill off the rest of the bacteria. With larger birds you have to increase the dose. I think the .6cc was for a 4 pound hen. I'd have to look at my box at home to get exact amounts.

Alright, thanks for the info. Most of my birds are 6+ lbs, so... .8 cc?

Elanco suggests 50mg per pound per day, so a six pound bird would get 3cc twice a day. IMO, 0.8cc is not enough, it's only 6.5mg per pound.

I inquired on Marek's vaccination status when purchasing from a breeder.. and they responded in summary:

We are this and that certified and the other tested, and we don't have diseases like that"

Please forgive my gallows humor.

I could say the same if I hadn't sent for necropsy.
