I did i went through 3 times, but in her thread she shows the mark to look for on the birds foot, on mine there is no mark at all, just his leg scales.

oh wait now that i think about it, earlier i did see a tiny spot on the front that looked like a puss, could that be the mark?

Ok i think his foot is starting to fall off already, just under the bubble on the top of his foot, when we look at it, it is cracked through like his foot is already seperateing.

the bubble is really hard, i dont see anything to puncture through.

Ok I come to learn he has frost bite, not bubble foot.
thanks to some one else posting pictures of there with frost bite, now i know, that swhat it is.

oh my god i feel even worse, here we are pokeing at him makeing holes in his foot when that was not even the promblem.

I can't really tell from the pictures if it definitely frostbite, but it very well could be. It sounds like being housed on wire floors can be a contributor.

With the pictures I posted, those are about a week after we rescued them. There was much more swelling and above the frostbite it was hot to the touch. If it is frostbite, do not start cutting back dead flesh or amputate the foot. Our vet said if you start cutting back the dead flesh, who knows what you will end up with. It's best to let nature take its course.

If possible, remove him from the wire cage and put him on pine shavings or something else soft. The shavings have really helped ours. Also food and water close by.

Like I said, I'm not 100% certain it is frostbite from the pictures, maybe there is a chance it still is bumblefoot. But if it is frostbite, he'll be alright and will come around. There are many chicken owners here on BYC with foot (or footless) chickens. It will just take him a bit. Don't beat yourself up over it, you certainly didn't do it on purpose and you obviously care very much about him. Feel free to PM with any questions or concerns.

I have a rooster whose foot fell off and he gets around just fine. He started with a swelling in his foot - actually in that short "back toe". I checked him and it wasn't bumblefoot, just swelling for some unknown reason. It kept swelling and eventually cut the circulation off to his foot. Over time the toes dried and withered up and eventually just cracked off. He lost his whole foot, just beneath the spur. He still has his spur so he uses his stub and spur to stand on and hops around using the stub for balance when needed. He does just fine.

I also had a hen whose leg was deformed since hatch and got worse and worse. It had no blood flow (or very minimal) to the lower leg and she had no use of her foot. Her leg would stick up above her head or straight out from her side and her gnarled foot would tangle in everything. We eventually amputated her leg just above the "knee" when she was about a year old and she too got around just fine by hopping and using her wing when needed.
