1 year old amberlink hen who is not laying or eating much with diarrhea that is green and white and watery. She’s still very chipper walking around when we let her out of her crate. She seems to have a slight work of breathing, as in when I hold her up to my ear I hear a little gasp with each breathe but no other respiratory. We’ve been trying corid for the past 3 days in the water which she is drinking. No improvement. She has had respiratory issues in the past that cleared up with oral Tylan 50. No one else in the flock is showing any symptoms.

Where are you on the globe? Has it been very hot lately? This chicken appear to have a poor appetite. Have you seen her eat? Have you checked her crop for unusual fullness or lumpiness?

I’m in vermont so it’s been a 40-50 degree spring here. I have seen her eat little bits. Mostly drinking though. Her crop is completely empty right now.

Also an update: I did check her for eggbound and felt nothing. I did get her to eat a little egg. I felt her belly and it feels like it’s expanding in and out slowly similar to breathing. Her tail is also moving up and down slightly wish I could include a video.

You can give her a drench dose of the Corid, around .5ml undiluted syringed into her mouth. Do it for three days in addition to the Corid water.

Do you have an old antibiotic prescription lying around? It wouldn't hurt to start her on an antibiotic in case this has a bacterial component.

Hello Tor14, I have a 2 year old hen with a very similar condition to what you describe. Poopy butt from dirrhea, labored breathing that makes her tail rise and fall when she's at rest. But otherwise seems fine. She's been like this for quite a few weeks. Can you let me know if you figured out how to help yours? Thanks!

It might be this…please read…I thought my hen was affected by the culling last week of the two mean bullies (roosters that attack us, each other, the hens).

She stopped laying. Separated herself. Stopped eating and drinking for 3 days. I isolated her and been gave her soft mash and vitamins and electrolytes water. Obviously having trouble standing because she was so weak. Every couple of hours I gave the electrolyte and offer the food mash and try to have her stand up for a little bit, but other than that I let her rest and try to recoup. I guess… She’s a fluffy light Brahma so you can’t tell the weight she’s lost. She’s also just turned 3yrs old.

I took her to the Vet—she’s was not contagious sick, but I treated for cocci. She’s clearly weak, so I have her away from the flock.DDC5E0EF-B01B-4E6B-8B5B-E6118C3D7F10.jpeg5B63C715-7BE5-4D3E-A787-7AC817005454.jpeg27E21E99-0B6A-4C59-991F-DD7F117873BD.jpeg964A77A5-8965-4F68-8B75-870C14B8E9D1.jpeg26D1568C-EC69-4902-AC4F-220889A3D11F.jpeg

She died on Friday🥺😔😭 Took her in for necropsy (an animal autopsy).

SHE HAD CANCER!! Little tumors all across her abdomen. Bloodwork and other tests were clear of any diseases, healthy feathers(even growing new ones).

This MIGHT be an answer. Hope this helps.🙏

Hi @Dulce Mama Welcome To BYC
Do you have a thread you started about your hen? I'm unable to find it.
If you can give more info, that would be helpful. Photos of your hen, if she's laying eggs, what you feed and where you are located in the world would be a good start.

@Killyhawker I'm sorry to hear about your hen.
Thank you for the post and information. Sadly, cancer seems to be all to common in laying hens. :(

Hi. No I didn't start my own thread. What @Tor14 posted was pretty much spot on for mine. I haven't separated her from the rest. They all seem to be doing fine, but for a tiny bit of poop on some of their butts. And I realized today that she is still laying eggs, but they're kind of elongated. ???
