Not eating, watery green diarrhea

It might be this…please read…I thought my hen was affected by the culling last week of the two mean bullies (roosters that attack us, each other, the hens).

She stopped laying. Separated herself. Stopped eating and drinking for 3 days. I isolated her and been gave her soft mash and vitamins and electrolytes water. Obviously having trouble standing because she was so weak. Every couple of hours I gave the electrolyte and offer the food mash and try to have her stand up for a little bit, but other than that I let her rest and try to recoup. I guess… She’s a fluffy light Brahma so you can’t tell the weight she’s lost. She’s also just turned 3yrs old.

I took her to the Vet—she’s was not contagious sick, but I treated for cocci. She’s clearly weak, so I have her away from the flock.DDC5E0EF-B01B-4E6B-8B5B-E6118C3D7F10.jpeg5B63C715-7BE5-4D3E-A787-7AC817005454.jpeg27E21E99-0B6A-4C59-991F-DD7F117873BD.jpeg964A77A5-8965-4F68-8B75-870C14B8E9D1.jpeg26D1568C-EC69-4902-AC4F-220889A3D11F.jpeg

She died on Friday🥺😔😭 Took her in for necropsy (an animal autopsy).

SHE HAD CANCER!! Little tumors all across her abdomen. Bloodwork and other tests were clear of any diseases, healthy feathers(even growing new ones).

This MIGHT be an answer. Hope this helps.🙏
Sorry about your hen. That must have been hard!
I think my hen is behaving quite normally, except for the rhythmic up and down motion of her tail.

Hello Tor14, I have a 2 year old hen with a very similar condition to what you describe. Poopy butt from dirrhea, labored breathing that makes her tail rise and fall when she's at rest. But otherwise seems fine. She's been like this for quite a few weeks. Can you let me know if you figured out how to help yours? Thanks!

Hi. No I didn't start my own thread. What @Tor14 posted was pretty much spot on for mine. I haven't separated her from the rest. They all seem to be doing fine, but for a tiny bit of poop on some of their butts. And I realized today that she is still laying eggs, but they're kind of elongated. ???
Hard to know what's going on with her.
Check for lice/mites, that her crop is emptying, consider getting a fecal float to see if worms are an issue. Feel for bloat or fluid in the abdomen below the vent between the legs.
See that she's eating well and drinking.
Laying hens can commonly have reproductive disorders that make them feel bad. They can rally for a while only to decline again. Vitamins once a week may be helpful.

If you can give more info, that would be helpful. Photos of your hen, if she's laying eggs, what you feed and where you are located in the world would be a good start.

Oh, and she does a single squeeky cough every once in a while.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, after decades of raising chickens, I've never learned how to check the crop, abdomen, etc. I'll see if I can find someone local who can teach me.

Your not the first to tell me something like this.

Here's a crash course:)

The crop is located on the right side of the breast. When your hen has been eating/drinking and she goes to roost at night, you should be able to feel a bulge on that side of her breast. Like a pouch or bean bag, possibly firm feeling...like it has food/water.
When you go out to re-check first thing in the morning, that bulge should be gone and it should feel empty/flat. She should have processed all that was in the crop during the night and leaving evidence under the roost. IF the crop is not empty after she's been sleeping all night and not had anything to eat, then you will want to address that. (links below).

For the abdomen. Below her vent, feel there and between her legs. Is there a fullness like a baby's full diaper or like she's bloated. Is it hard, squishy like fat, tight like a drum, full of fluid? Things to consider when feeling of the abdomen.

If you have a few other hens of similar age and breed, then feeling of their crops and abdomens will give you a fairly good comparison to see if she feels any different.

While you are checking out butts, crops and abdomens, take a look for any lice or mites around the vent and under the wings.

You can give her a drench dose of the Corid, around .5ml undiluted syringed into her mouth. Do it for three days in addition to the Corid water.

Do you have an old antibiotic prescription lying around? It wouldn't hurt to start her on an antibiotic in case this has a bacterial component.

I’m so sorry about your little beauty. We ended up getting peaches necropsied as well after we put her down ourselves because she just wasn’t improving. She had tumors that were caused by Mareks ☹️ We had another girl with similar symptoms so am thinking that was also Mareks.

I’m sorry friend but we ended up having to put her down because she wasn’t improving. Got her necropsied and it was cancer due to Mareks disease ☹️

Thanks! I haven't gotten a chance yet, but I'll let you know if I have further questions. I appreciate your help!
