Not happy at all - what would you do?

Most companies have no-pets-at-work policies because of liability. However, the only time we hired "tree guys" the owner himself came out with his crew, small company, so they may not have specific policies - heck it might have been the company owner's own dog and his thoughts are probably "it's my company and my jobsite so I can do whatever I want" Unfortunately too many companies (even small ones) have forgotten what "customer service" means.
He was contracted to cut trees, not takeover your property while he was there! Geeze!

I've only brought a dog "uninvited" one time, and I felt bad about it, but the situation was that I had the puppy with me and after I got there (over an hour from home) someone wanted to take me to their mom's house sooo the pup had to come too. They invited her in (I was gonna leave her in the truck as the weather was cool and it was shady and they had other dogs) so I kept her on a leash beside me the WHOLE time -even nside their house- she was an angel and they loved her.
I would be really peeved if someone brought their dog over and just let it run amuck!!!

I remember vividly, years ago when my roomate hired a contractor to come to the house to repair something. I told the contractor to either not bring his little dog (ancient chihuahua) to the house or at least, keep her in the truck because of my dobe pup and husky that were in the yard. He let her out anyway and my husky attacked her. He (the contractor) then went out of the fenced yard to his truck, grabbed his shotgun, came back into the yard and shot and killed my husky. I was called by the police at work and told to come home. The contractor tried to sue me for damages to himself and his dog. My dog's body was covered by a tarp (nice police officer). I wasn't even allowed to bury my dog as they decided his head was getting a one way trip to Austin for rabies testing since he also managed to bite the contractor as he tried to remove his chihuahua from Nikki's jaws. BTW, the ancient chuhuahua lived.

No, no one has the right to turn their animals loose in your animals' territory. Somebody will get hurt - or worse.

BorderKelpie - That is a horrible thing to have happen, I am so sorry for your loss. Hopefully there were no further legal ramifications on your end.
A couple of years ago a city worker went into my in-laws back yard. When he left, he also left the gate open and when my in-laws let their (in heat) Rottie out, she saw someone passing by walking their dog, and they scuffled. The owner of the other dog tried to sue for the Vet costs, etc. but because the city was at fault the city ended up paying the fees. It wasn't either dog's fault, they were just being dogs, and the whole situation could have been avoided if people just acted respectfully when entering someone else's property.
Our landscapers have left our gate open a couple of times, but our dogs are fairly well trained and didn't leave the yard before I noticed. Not that I would put it past them if they saw something interesting to chase. In any case, I have had to sic my husband on the lawn guys a couple of times so they know not to repeat the mistake.

Now, I am a massive animal lover. I am not bothered by animals doing almost anything, to be honest--I have chickens in my room, my corgi barking at the TV, animals everywhere. But I think it's just plain irresponsible and rude that the tree-cutters would bring their dog along and let the dog roam on your property without permission. Even if nothing happened, that is still extremely rude and risky. Anyone who thinks you're not entitled to be miffed is being unreasonable in my humble opinion. It would be one thing if they left the dog in the car, that's fine because the dog can't do any harm there, but letting them out to wander around on your property? Not okay. I would be miffed, too--I have an outdoor cat and sometimes my smaller pullets escape from the coop, and I feel it would risk their safety to have a strange dog wandering around. Not to mention the guinea fowl "alarms" would be going off and that by itself is a disruption!

I would talk to the tree-cutting company and your landlord and let them both know what happened and that you were unhappy with the situation.

BorderKelpie, I am so sorry to hear about the situation you went through. That is terribly sad and horrible.

Thank you.

and people wonder why i get weird about other dogs in my yard.

I have fired my landscapers for leaving the gate open. The first time, I gently reminded them. The second time, fired. I have working bred sheepdogs, my neighbor has goats. I just as soon my dogs didn't work his goats to death.

No, I have never forgotten my poor Nik, because of him, all my friends/family know that well behaved canine visitors are always welcome, if I know their coming. Strays and univited canines will be 'removed' as needed.

OMG that is horrible. Did you get to sue the contractor for killing your dog? I would not have paid the guy for any repairs that he did. He was told to leave the dog in the truck or not bring it. His fault 100%

My dad is one of those guys who brings his dog everywhere. but if you're clear and say "Gee, I'd rather the dog stayed in your car" he was totally fine with that. His dog is a Border Collie, and REALLY likes my chickens. She doesn't chase them, but she does corner them and stare.... and stare.... and it just freaks them out. so she has to stay in the car when they come over. My other friend brings his dog over every time too, but he's about a million years old, and just flops down and watches the chickens wander by.

Maybe I'm strange...but I'm REAL choosy about who gets access
to my land. That's why I have a gate and a fence...my side...not my side.

The rare appearance of a service man will be accompanied by me personally.

So to that end, the resident should of been home and in charge. Unable to do
that, the resident should have had another person there and acting as being in
charge.

But to the question of the tree trimmers bringing their dog....NO. I would not allow
that.
