But why should a person, who is paying for services, have to say "hey, please leave your animal in the car". If you are being paid to do a job, either ask the person before arriving at their home with the animal - or leave them at home. In my case, I am gone during the day. I work full time and go to school full time. Had I not passed this contractor on the only way to or from my home, I would have never known what was going on.

I guess I just have a hard time because I can't just "take off of work". I work 40 minutes from the farm - my husband owns a "one man business" in the neighboring state - which is 1.25 hours from us.... so if he is not there, we do not get paid.... and this job is supposed to take 3-4 days to complete at the farm. That is alot of money for someone to loose just to not have a contractor allow their dog to terrorize my property.

we rent as well, but our property is smaller, we've had foundation work, tree trimming, plumbing, cable and phone outside work, you name it, and I never had to specify to anyone "would you please not bring any animals along with you?" that's ridiculous.

being in a rural area doesn't mean all formalities go out the window.

Definately am relieved that a little grain calmed everyone down last night

I get off of work here in a couple hours - picking up some feed and then going home. Hubby called the company TICKED this morning and what they don't know is that I am showing up today so it will definately be in their best interest that there are NO dogs on my property.

My husband jumped out of our vehicle when we got home, went and looked at their equipment that they LEFT in the middle of our turn around driveway and then went straight to the barn to count "his" ducks.... he loves those birds!

My answer? Call the company, explain that you are the tenant of the leased land upon which they are doing a job and tell them VERY clearly that NO animals are to accompany the workers to the job site. Period. Have a chat with the landlord about it, nicely.

Don't justify, don't qualify. Tell them no. Be courteous, but don't back down.

I worked as a contractor's assistant for years. One of my guys showed up with a pet along for the ride? He got to go home. With his dog.
And anyone who shows up here with a pet? Nope, seeya. My liability deductible is too high for that.

It seems harsh, and it is for a reason. I am liable for what happens on my land, I can't afford oops.

ETA, even keeping the pet in their vehicle is a no-no for me. It's causes too much stress on on MY animals to hear a dog barking hysterically all day. Not to mention what it does to me.

I would guess that when they came out to do the estimate, the contractor thought about what a nice place it would be for his dog to run around on during the day. Problem of course, is that it was not his land, he was not an invited guest who had permission to bring his dog or anythin of the sort. Now if the dog was a service dog, he is probably entitled to bring it; however service dogs are excrutiatingly well-trained, and this was obviously NOt the case. It would still have been appropriate to have notified y'all if it was a service dog becuase, while it might be well-trained, that does not mean that your animals would react positively.

As for the contractor who shot the client's dog? He should have been arrested and jailed, and paid a VERY large award for pain and suffering. He was specifically TOLD to not bring his dog. Not just an idiot who didn't ask, but was specifically told "NO."

I have seen tree trimmers here bring a dog but he was an older dog and just sat in the guys van on the street and didn't go onto anyones property or bark. Visitors do sometimes bring dogs but they ask which gives me a chance to move the geese out to the long fenced run, a lot of "nice dogs" will happily rip fowl or livestock to shreds on site.

But to cut your dog loose on private property without permission is wrong. Isn't that some form of tresspassing? They should have asked ahead of time before they got there. You are paying rent there not him, he was being paid to do a job and no matter what the size of the lot its not a dog park for him to use as he pleases. No one wants their livestock harassed, chased, frightened, injured, or killed, heck some animals can have a heart attack just from being scared. I would be mad too and definately would complain to his boss if he has one. (probably would also leave an online review at places like Yelp.com so other people can read it.)
