NOT in the CA fire zones but chickens won't lay

You know, I think it was stress related from all the smoke. Today, the first day I've seen some actual color in the skies for quite a while I got 6 eggs and another hen is still on the nest.

I really think it was due to the smoke.

How long are mature hens biologically able to go without laying an egg?

I don't think there is a limit. Like I have a special needs bird that popped out 6 eggs her first year, stopped, then 4 eggs the second. Assuming she's still around I anticipate maybe 2 eggs next spring and then another 11 month break.

Another hen hit early henopause at 2 1/2 years (she's now 4) and though she likes to lounge in the nests, she seems perfectly content to not lay again.
