I have 4 girls 2RIR, 1 leghorn, and 1EE. They are all roughly 6 1/2 months. They have not layed one egg, they squat and have bright red combs. Is this due to the cold weather (California) or nutrition? They have clean water at all times. And enough space for them in the run and coop.

Has there been a lot of sun lately or clouds? It might be that there is not enough light. BUt possibly, they have an internal blockage. Let's ask @casportpony . Oh ya, that reminds me, what does their poop look like?

Their poop comes in a variety of colors, typically a dark mustard color. It is not watery.

It's common for pullets just getting to POL at this time of year to wait til daylight hours lengthen before starting to lay... as long as they are active, eating and healthy, I wouldn't worry til spring...
Ravyn is correct.

Even in sun shiny California, the chickens can tell that each day is shorter than the last.

Once we get around that horror, and days start to get longer, they will get their rears in gear. :)

Egg production is directly tied to light exposure. The shorter days of fall and winter means it takes pullets longer to start laying. Good news is that the solstice is less than two weeks away, and then the days start to get longer again. This will trigger the pituitary gland to start producing the hormones needed for egg production.
