I bought these birds 7+ weeks ago as day old chicks. They were sold as cornish cross meat birds. We are pretty convinced they are not. They are no where near butcher size and have red in them. Any ideas on them. All would be appreciated.
Or Amberlinks which look a whole lot like sexlink males in their juvenile plumage. If none of them have big combs, you may well have accidentally bought layers.
There are definitely more males than females. I think I can identify at least 7 roosters out of the 12. There may be more. Thank you for all your help!! This situation make me very angry. If you are going to sell your birds than at least be honest or know what you are selling, Right!!
Good luck with what ever they are. At least you can still eat them. There are cases every year of such things and it's really devastating to the poor people who buy layers and end up with meat birds.
I agree with the above opinions. They are either Red Sex Link males (males are white with red on wings, females would be red with white accents), or Amber Links, which look almost identical to the male Red Sex Links.
Also, that's always very frustrating when you don't end up with what you bought. I guess I should have expected it, but I bought 8 straight run Black Sex Links this spring (jumped into it without doing research on how you can sex them by looking at them) and got 100% roosters.
Not quite the same situation as you, but I was still pretty frustrated. And it's so hard to tell what you are really getting when they are so small and all look the same!
