Not mounting her (Good sign?)

So until I get another female, I've been having to currently keep an eye on Colonel so that he doesn't over mate Duchess.
I've noticed that he's slowed down and isn't really mounting her as much as before.
And I know he's not mounting her as much because he was starting to pull a few neck feathers out of her when he would try to mount her.

Is this a good sign?
Will he stop mounting her until spring?

He may or just slow down. My Runners continued to mate over winter their first couple years but it was nothing like spring an summer.
