We have a broody hen sitting on eggs. She's been there at least a week and a half. We haven't lifted her up since the original discovery that she'd gone broody. There are eight eggs under there. She's in the chicken coop with the main population and we need to know when the chicks might hatch because we are planning a camping trip and we don't want the babies to hatch and no one there to put them in the brooder and the other chickens/rooster to kill the babies.

Is there any way to know what day of development the eggs are at? Would candeling tell us?

Thanks!

Candling will give you an idea. I had an eggs under a hen and candled and thought it would hatch any day but it was a week later.

I'm new to hens hatching eggs but what I have experienced the hen is NOT going to let another chicken or roo hurt the babies. It's predators that I have problems with.

See
if it will help any.
