Howdy, a while back my dear duck greta got attacked by a hawk. she made it through though and is living quite a good life. but now she has a new issue.

Her left leg was giving her a lot of trouble. so i splinted it, and wrapped it with bandages for the last 2 weeks. now its gotten very swollen. ive taken the cast off and we plan to give her foot a good looking over now since we arent sure whether or not it was a broken leg in the first place. What worries me is the possibility that she got an infection?

If anyone has any info or had a similar experience, please let me know. i would hate to lose her.

pictures please!!!! pictures help immensely with diagnosing injuries.

Pictures would be great! When you say you "splinted it, and wrapped it with bandages," have you left the bandages and splint in place the whole time? Was there sufficient bloodflow to the foot? Did you only notice the swelling after taking off the bandage? Is the swelling localized and, if so, where is it swollen? Any chance you can get her in for an x-ray? We'd love to assist if we are able!

I will take some more photos today once she is out of the coop.

The swelling began after the 2nd week because i accidentally wrapped it a bit too tight. i truly hope i helped more than harmed. We are using 3d printed splints for her.

these are the pictures i have of her in the splint.

I feel very badly for having wrapped it too tight.

we live in a small community in alaska, there is no vet with an xray that isnt a 2 hour drive away.

This is her as a of this morning. the swelling has come down immensely. she has issues flattening out her left ankle. cant quite get it there. we have had to pack the splint so that it isnt hanging.

She does have what could be a small nodule on the bottom of her foot. i thought ducks had a larger middle knuckle? so i didnt think anything of it.

the family hasnt woken up yet, once they do we will wrangle her and take some pictures of the nodule on her foot to confirm.

Thank you for the pictures. I'm hoping some other folks will chime in. It would help to see the bottom of the foot. Technically a duck's ankle is that joint higher up her leg (also known as her hock). I think you are saying that she is unable to flatten her foot, but have you also observed anything abnormal (swelling, point tenderness) with her ankle? Where was the swelling you observed? Do both her feet feel the same temperature?

How are things today? Any changes? Did you get a chance to get a picture of the bottom of her foot?

These are the pics my family managed to take. Does that little spot look like bumblefoot? would a spot that small make it so she cant walk right whatsoever?

We plan to give it a vinegar bath later today just to clean it up and see if its a wound or just a callous. im not sure what else to do. as it doesnt feel like her leg is broken.
