Not sure if this is the right place to put this

How about paying attention to what your dogs are doing at all times and stop any unwanted activity they may get into.
Try a leash, chain or training collar...
Don't own animals if you don't want to invest the time into them

cattle hot wire around pen for chi kens and make sure it is the pulse/poping kind, ie not buzz/always on. wire at bottom and one at hip height surround entire coop and run area, and keep the chickens up or you may as well hand feed them to the dog. invisible fence will not do.

I agree with an electric fence around your coop area. Not the underground kind, but the kind you use for cattle. I would also suggest at least 4 wires around it. Low enough to keep the dog from going under, high enough it can't jump over, and a couple in between so it can't go through. Training a thick-headed dog takes much time and consistency, but is worth it in the long run. If you feel the dog can't be trained, then it's imperative that you keep them separated at all times and make absolutely sure it can't get to your flock. Electric fence would be a good investment in your situation, and it's not that expensive. At least not when it's that or keep replacing your flock. There are fencers out there that are solar powered, and ones that can be run on a car battery. You wouldn't necessarily have to have an outlet near your coop.

Shooting your own dog because you haven't bothered to train it is probably about the greatest abdication of responsibility I've ever seen anyone suggest.

Judging from some of your other responses, I think you just like shooting dogs.

All right then let's get it on. I've with held my reply to allow myself the time to reflect just why I should not rip your fool head off. Basically you don't know me and just why I'm such a cold hearted *******.

First, foremost and always I am a dog and animal lover. I'll fight you over my dogs, I'm funny that way. Funny you cite me as abdicating responsibility when the very reason I even have to suggest acting responsibly to resolve problems is because of other's irresponsible actions.

For the record I have probably owned and trained more dogs than most will in a lifetime as a former kennel owner, semi professional trainer, breeder and handler of hounds. I count among the many blessings in my life of hunting behind some of the finest hounds around.

Yet, I advocate not only shooting dogs but cats (my true passion) and wildlife of all types as allowed by regulation.

Strange conundrum certainly but I enjoy none of it. Quite truthfully it disgusts me yet as a professional wildlife manager, proper title Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator aka Professional Trapper, I know I'm nothing but a glorified professional killer.

Why do I do this you might ask and why has it hardened me so? Well it's rather simple. STUPID PEOPLE!

You see the number one reason I am tasked with killing is 99.9% of the time the poor animal has done nothing deserving of death but instead some dumb human has lured the animal into a situation where I am forced to act.

Example; the small flock owner who calls me in to trap the; (circle the one that applies) coon, possum, fox, coyote, feral cat, stray dog; that is eating hens.

Guess what I am REQUIRED BY LAW to do to the wildlife when I catch them and the dog and cat go to the county kill shelter, again as REQUIRED BY LAW.

So I look at all this feathered food wandering around where it is just begging to be eaten and I wonder how I got myself into killing all these creatures. You got it, some DUMB HUMAN created a wildlife problem.

Same goes for the squirrel/coon/rat/flying squirrel in the attic. Some DUMB HUMAN didn't clean his/gutters, paint his/her soffit, repair his/her roof or otherwise take care of their stuff!

Little known fact; if you have wildlife living in your house you do not have a wildlife problem but instead you have a house problem.

Corollary; I don't solve wildlife problems I attempt to solve people problems.

Wildlife I understand, people I don't.

I guess by being a self appointed curmudgeon I am in my own way trying to shame folks into stepping up and taking responsibility for solving their own dumb human problems.

BTW, take it from someone who has tried. A stock killing dog can never be trusted. You can instill the fear of instant and overwhelming pain into them to the point they will never touch a bird within your sight but once they are confirmed killers they will kill whenever they get the chance. At that point your choices are limited, either permanent confinement for life or euthanasia. Also such an animal should be permanently altered and never used for breeding as such behavior is a heritable trait.

I was serious on the cats. My passion is that cats be treated as we treat our dogs, on a leash or confined. Free ranging feral cats are the number one killer of native wildlife plus a major reservoir of zoonotic disease.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yes you could. Many hunters ply this forum yet refrain from such. Statements above did not respond properly to who was being criticized thus taking on the appearance of a rant. Clearly most people do not know how to keep dogs in general but positive inputs will provide changes better. Also stock killing is stoppable when trainer id properly motivated and skilled. The motivation is probably overriding in this case based on what it written,
