He's a Cochin, he is hardly cockfighting material. Those people take their birds very seriously, and don't just use whatever they find on Craigslist.Thank you for telling me why the cochin is a male. I can only keep one rooster, and I already have one. Any suggestions on how to give this sweetheart to someone else? I dont want him to go on Craigslist to be used in a cock fight or something
I'm pretty bad at guessing Wyandottes; but those Easter Eggers are pullets.Ok I posted some pics of my birds a couple weeks ago. I'm really thinkin' they're all girls, but I don't know how I could get so lucky. They were all purchased at the local feed store and apparently came from Belt Hatchery in Fresno. I'm not concerned about the two little white fluffbutt silkies, as I understand it can take a long time to find out what gender they are. I am a little concerned about a few of the other birds tho.
This is my GLW buddy Frederika who loves to fly up on my lap when I sit out there with them, or up onto my back or shoulder when I'm out scooping poop inside the pen. S/he is now 7weeks old and her comb has not changed from the pinky color it's been for awhile. In fact, this picture makes the comb and wattles look a lot pinker than they really are for some reason.
This is her "sister" Josephine, who is hard to get pics of. She isn't as friendly as Fred, and she is mostly busy protecting the silkies from the older girls. Not sure if you can see the little "horn" thingie in the top middle of her comb. That's been there for several weeks, but hasn't grown any bigger.
One of the other birds I'm a little worried about is my crazy EE Henrietta. She's getting suspicious-looking hackle feathers. I mean, they look longer and thinner than her sister Gertie's. And getting close to get a really good look is difficult because they both hate being picked up. They flap their wings and squawk like crazy. I did manage to grab her in the coop last night and looked at those hackle feathers and they aren't exactly totally "pointy" but they are narrower than Gertie's. She doesn't have much of a comb tho. They are both 10weeks old now. My son thinks Henrietta looks like a rooster. I just am not so sure...
