I have five 16 week old "layers" that BYC has deemed pullets but their combs and wattles are in various states of redness & development. Some are far more advanced than others. Since these are my first chickens (as an adult) I am hopeful of eggs by Labor Day.
Bumping. Can anyone help wrm54?
Yes, young chicks do fight for dominance. It's all a normal part of establishing pecking order. Some of my pullets are just as intense in their sparing as their brothers.Do young chicks (under laying age) play fight together like young children do, or am I seeing a pecking order starting up with my three? They are all about the same size, but the Iowa Blue is kinda bossy. She's not pecking on the other two--yet. This is my first "flock" so I know nothing!
