The one with its head up is DANCER

BUDDY AGAIN

This is JOY

JOY again

How can you tell, I'm curious on the traits. I had a good inkling that Buddy was a Cockerel and thought Joy was a pullet but had no ideas on the others

Both about 17 weeks old and recently started sparring a little. Are they cockerels??

Quote: For the age, a reddish comb means male. Pullets don't get red combs until they are close to laying (around 20 wks). The cockerels' combs are also larger, but that can be tricky if you don't have a comparison. Even the out of focus male standing behind Joy in the bottom picture shows a larger red comb. Once you know what to look for, you will see it!

I just looked it up and found some others whose hens were laying at 16 weeks. Really that's just a guideline. I have an easter egger who is 14 weeks also and laying. I also have 2 13 week old sex links who are laying. At this age comb is not definite. If they are males they should have saddle feathers and shiny hackles feathers. If not they are pullets

Prancer comb is the darkest red, the other 3 are pinkish. I don't see any hackle or saddle feathers yet. Ill try and get some better photos and wont warm the oven just yet.
