Crowing
That's a boy, and looks like a black sexlink cockerel. He's got yellow skin, so not a Marans, and his barring isn't light enough for a purebred Barred Rock.

Thank you both for the info! I took him back to the feed store just now. They immediately agreed he was a rooster. At first they said they would just give me a hen but I would still have to keep him, but eventually they agreed to take him and let me just take the hen home. Unfortunately, the jerks gave me a sick one. They don't allow customers into the room to select the chicks, otherwise this wouldn't have happened. She is quiet as a mouse and doesn't want to stand up. Definitely unlike the others when I first brought them home. I am fed up dealing with this place so am keeping the poor little girl quarantined and hoping she makes a recovery. If anyone lives in the Dallas/Plano area, AVOID Wells Brothers Feed store.
Chick 1-Production Red, looking like a pullet. Chick 2-Buff Brahma, I'm not sure....it's got a lot of comb development though. Chick 3-Not sure on breed, pullet. Chick 4-Black Australorp or Jersey Giant, probably a cockerel. Chick 5-Barred Rock, looking like a cockerel. Chick 6-Not sure on breed, cockerel. Chick 7-Buff Orpington, cockerel. Ameraucanas: All look like pullets to me. They don't like like true Ameraucanas though, but you might want a second opinion on them. Hope all this helps. Can you tell me the breeds and gender of these beauties? They were hatched on Jan. 26th, 2017 Chick #1![]()

Still pretty sure that's a cockerel, and looks to be about 12 weeks, still a bit young for obvious male specific feathering. You posted 4 weeks ago, stating the age was 8 weeks old. 8 weeks plus 4 weeks is 3 months old, not 4 to 5 months.
Hello! I'm posting the same chicken, a few weeks later... what do you think she (hopefully she!!!??) is??
She doesn't have any saddle feathers as far as I can see, the rest of her feathers are fairly rounded, when you stroke her, she lifts her bum a bit (which is apparently a sign she's ready to start laying?) and her tail shape is similar to the hen we have already.... her comb is a little big but I was convinced she was a girl.., this morning, she made a funny gurgling sound while flapping her wings... it sounded like an attempted crow...
Any ideas as to what she is? She must be about 4-5 months now...
Please help!
