Copper Maran: Comb looks sort of pink but isn't as big as a male's should be. Could have been hot & "she's" flushed.... or "he" could be a late bloomer.

Olive-Egger: Female.... and a pretty one too! Looks like she came from a Crested Cream Legbar to get the blue-green egg color genes.

Rhode Island Red: Female

Silver Laced Wyandotte: Female (can tell by 2nd pic)

Blue-laced Wyandotte: Female - pretty one too

Ameracauna: I can't see the comb well enough to be sure. Feathers & body look female, though.

Again, you're looking at a different breed, and the "rows of peas" might not be as distinct as this pic, but that's what to look for. Females don't get the lumpy look until much later than males.

This is HUGELY helpful, ty. I'm goign back out in the rain, as soon as I find my glasses. May be a terrible photographer (ok, I AM a terrible photographer), but my eyes still (mostly) work, now that I know what to look for.

Please help me out with these three 5 week olds. The lighter brown one and yellow one are harassing/pecking/ pulling tails on my other chicks so badly I'm just about done with them. My guess is lighter brown one is a Roo and the other two are Pullets.
Any guesses?? Thank you

Female chicks will peck and pull as much as males at this age. I don't see any obvious males, but they are still young. Pics in natural light are best to determine comb color.

This is my commitment to return to this thread (or maybe spawn another) and confirm in four weeks, but based on the sage advice of @Wishing4Wings and my own tired eyes, Darkest is in fact "Diane", while "Chuck" who thinks he's a duck is not going to be newly christened as Charlene.

The three others, mostly sharing Chuck's very light coloration, I'm less confident in. one is 80% confident male and I may be imagining some white patching appearing in the wings, which would confirm, the other two have almost non existent pea combs, so fingers crossed they are pullets.

Will be interesting to see if Brahma pea combs act the same as EEs. And I want to see why Diane is such a different color!

Sorry, terrible at Silkies. Might as well flip a coin! There is supposed to be a difference in the crest. Females are more rounded and puffball looking. Males have a spiky look, with longer feathers jutting out. That's all I got. Oh, except males crow and females lay eggs.

I looked up Sapphire Gem to find out what kind of chicken they are... says they are sex-linked, meaning the pullets and cockerels can be identified by color after hatching. The rooster will look different than a hen, in this case he will have some barring. The only pic I could find of a rooster is this.

So how old are they? Is the bantam the same age?
