Not sure what's gone wrong... A few questions...

Maybe they're at slightly different stages of development? The wiggly good-lookin' chicks are in the biggest eggs. Maybe they got hotter being closer to the element and are developing quicker. They're BIG eggs (not double yolkers, these girls just lay jumbo eggs).

The smaller eggs (including all of my EE eggs) are the ones with the air pocket on the wrong end. I see no movement in the 'fat end up' eggs.

What caused the air pocket to end up on the wrong end of the egg?

First 10 are on day 17 right now.
Other 5 are on day 16.

They're a little over 12 hours apart. I don't know which ones are which.

Only awake cause I'm fussing about these darn eggs! Won't last much longer though :p

Take the eggs out of the carton and lay them on the grate.  I've found it is easier for the chicks during hatching.  Some might do it in the carton but since this is your first, better safe than sorry.

I'm sorry but I disagree. Since the chick is position of you lay him flat he will than be moved out of position. Since he has been in the cartoon though the incubation I wouldn't risk laying him flat messing up his position. I have done this before and all chicks didn't make it out of 10. That's why incubate flat now.

I can cut cartons down so the walls are very low- just high enough to cup the egg and keep it upright- and transfer the eggs over. This way the chick doesn't meet a cardboard wall. Is this a good median?

And do I store the eggs with their air pockets up or down?

Yes the carton idea is good. And with air pocket up
