Hi everyone,

Once again, another new person swooping in to ask a question. Any help or insight is appreciated!

My 2 year old Cavalier King Charles spaniel LOVES to eat chicken poo. She follows them around and just begs for someone to squat and donate to her disgusting snack habit. I stopped letting her lick any member of the family a year ago when she dragged a raccoon carcass to my back door that was wriggling with maggots. I despise the myth that dogs mouths are cleaner than ours,, and forbid any of my family members to allow her to shower us in kisses. She gets it and doesn't even try to give us affection in that form. I guess my concern about it is for her. I know this will be a question for her vet upon her next visit, but is there anything she can get sick from, or catch from this horribly unhealthy habit? Is there such a thing as cross specie contamination of any sort? Can she get worms from them, if indeed they have them?

I'd say that she could definately get worms if the chickens have worms. And if nothing else if she tanks up too much on it she might throw up chicken poo in your house. I'd check out a well-stocked petstore, or maybe a vet catalog like Foster and Smith. I've heard of products that are supposed to discourage poop eating, but I've never tried them and I'm not sure how they work.
