Not urgent: Hen with poopy butt and low energy

Yes, thanks for the reminder. I was just about to go out and check her since she'l be easier to check once she's sleeping. Sorry for the wait. 😜
LOL OK, I'll probably be off by the time you get back, but will take a look in the morning.
You're 3 hours behind me, so it's close to bedtime here:)

Jsut went and grabbed her, she made it easy since she was roosting.
Her keel bone is pretty sharp, seemed to get sharper in the last week. I have seen her eating, she's the first one to the feeder every morning, but the sharp keel makes me question how much.
Her abdomen also felt very bloated. Its not hard but squishy feeling. Her messy butt has a smell. Darn, this is worse then I thought. I really should have made a thread earlier, all these symptoms seemed to come on quite fast.

Fast huh. 🤔
Well I hope you can get her taken care of. Good luck!

Give her a good clean up in the morning and check her really well.
If she's hard to catch, can you cage her tonight, that way she's confined and easy to get.

Bloated abdomen that's squishy may be more fat. If it were fluid, then it would be tight like a drum.

Can you get a fecal float to check for worms?
Does she lay eggs?

I'm not entirely sure if/how much she lays, I do get an egg a day but not sure if thats her's or her siblings. I can check her vent in the morning. She's definitly on the older side, 8ish I believe?
I wish I could get a fecal float but veterinarian/testing isn't an option. I'm glad that the bloated abdomen is pointing towards fat rather then fluid, though fat isn't good either its definitely the better option.
Treats wise, I throw out a couple hands of meal worms between 6 chickens, and 13 ducks while free ranging. Between all of them I imagine its split well enough. We also feed the chickens table scraps, (careless family members do let bread and rice slide in, but I pick as much out as I can.)

An older hen like this may be having some reproductive issues.

If she's got a messy vent, it would be wise to give her a good wash up. Check for lice and mites as you go.

I did recently treat the flock for mites, I think a few weeks ago.
I'll wash her today since its supposed to get pretty warm. Thanks for the help.
