November 15th Quilt Swap

I hope it went well. I have a rooster I just took back today from my neighbor (should have been a pullet but those day old EE mutts are soooo hard to tell) the darn thing attacked her 3 yr old neice, as in knocked her to the ground & cut her cheek :( , said aggressive bird is going to freezer camp & my DH is going to give me step by step on the processing (as he says it is not exactly like the rabbits he taught me to do) so I can take care of this sort of thing in the future myself as need be. Not fun, but necessary skill...
It went very well thank you I only got to the one girl she was the biggest she is about 30-35 pounds and no fat I had a hard time lifting her and really it wasn't bad at all, she was used to me petting her and I really think she knew what was coming she just laid down and I petted her and at one point she closed her eyes and I slit her throat. Like you said not fun but necessary and I can't wait to taste her. If she and her sister tastes good I'm going to definitely go this route next year and I told my husband I would raise a few and donate them to a family in need. Wow that rooster would be soup for sure. I hope that doesn't scare that girl for the rest of her life.

same thing happened to me when I thought I was done Saturday :(

I thought I was finally ready to sew my horizontal rows. Then I realized I messed up all my top and bottom rows! One corner is messed up on each because my long pink piece is horizontal instead of vertical. I made them all the same! Now I have to go back and redo the corners completely so they'll be the right direction. I want to cry :hit

They should have been ready to mail out today.

I'm finally done. Being a newbie this is the hardest kind I've ever done. Quite a learning experience. I redid a lot of steps as I didn't have mirror images, or some how ended up the wrong size...they are far frim perfect but I did it!!!!

Got mine in the mail to you today @katsdar they shoyld arrive on thursday.
I'm back to sewing clothing for a bit. One of these http://www.sewaholicpatterns.com/saltspring-dress mine is in a drapey chocolate brown. With a cardigan, tights and boots for winter it should be great,
ANd one of these http://kwiksew.mccall.com/k3209-products-19875.php?page_id=3032 model A with the hood and pockets in a really loud fleece print.
Those are the only two things I have cut out right now. I'm wanting next to do this one http://kwiksew.mccall.com/k4026-products-47754.php?page_id=3013 i'll be adding pockets for sure.

I like that third one a lot. I've done drape necks like that, but mine wasn't a "kwik sew" it was a butterick!!!!! Harder then it needed to be I'm sure, b/c that is how butterick rolls! lol

I know what you mean. I rarely buy any Big 4 patterns any more. I try to stick with independent designers. They have such great instruction and usually back it up with sew-a-longs or blog posts.

@ kat - Wow, glad ya'll got the fire out. That is such a scary moment when you have to grab the fire extingisher!

We have them (estinguishers) under the kitchen sink & under our bed.
I had to use one on a grease fire in the kitchen once, really close call & after I got it out my big thought was not only how glad I was it was out but how glad I didn't have to call 911 as my DH was currently at that moment running a training session at the local volunteer fire dept. , can you imagine how @##$ he'd have been to get a call b/c I was burning the house down :(

Besides brooder bulb wattage, ya''ll keep in mind the top housefire cause these days is LAPTOPS overheating while not in use (we turn ours all the way off esp. when we go to sleep).
The other big cause here of several house fires was dryers, lint built up in the trap or in the dryer itself. So everyone check that & by all means have those ABC extingishers in kitchen AND bedrooms!

@ quailtrail YAH! You did it! :) I've really enjoyed the whole group effort part of doing this swap. The eventual quilt will have character, AND be perfect in its memories of how we all did our best and everyone is a learning work in progress. I think your blocks look lovely btw, great fabric choices too.

@ cathiesue The 2 dresses I like but my short round self is not the body type for either one. The big snuggly fleece will be great for hanging out on a snowy day reading sewing patterns etc. & pockets are good, everything should have pockets!

Ok now I need to go mark diagonal lines on fabric sq so I can get on w/ doing Ohio Star blocks for the flip side of the log cabin quilt. I'd debating between a row of them top & bottom vs. just one in each corner. The center will have a large Red O for Ohio State background being grey (school colors). I'm going to do 4 blocks then we'll see if it is corners or more for rows...

Yes the after thought was glad I didn't have to call 911, my husband and I did have a laugh after it was all over and done and pretty well cleaned up, we are sitting in the living room re grouping and we are laughing because remembering what he said as I'm picking up the chicks and putting them in a plastic tub to get them out of dodge and picture this the chicks are now white from the extinguisher. my husband said their battered now fry them up.

I did not know that about the laptops, I usually leave mine on, not anymore and I do keep my dryer cleaned out. Now to figure out where to take my extinguisher to have it re charged. I had grabbed the bigger one of the two. It took every bit of it and we moved the brooder off the porch and I doused it with the hose I wanted to make sure it was out and I never thought of putting extinguishers in the bed rooms but that does make since.

I like all three patterns but need the wrap with a cup of hot chocolate will pass on the fire even in a controlled environment, enough flames for a while.

very nice blocks I can't wait to see them all.
the independent patterns are cheaper too

oh the turkey's official weight is 25 pounds and will be doing the other one sat.

Thanks FeyRaine! Your instructions were very helpful even tho being a newbie I didn't know the verbiage. ..lol!!!!

I appreciate the encouragement! !! I am happy I bit more than I could chew on this one! By far the hardest one I have taken on. Am looking forward to growing and learning from everyone here. I can guarantee all of my work is made with lots of love! !

ok I didn't post a pic of my blocks, been busy as all of you have been too. I did change my sage because the other when I was cutting it was really thin why I didn't check that before I bought it is beyond me.

I have to say this block was a joy to make especially after that last one, I think I still have nightmares

I can't wait to get all of the blocks I think this will be one of our prettiest quilts yet.
