chicknsnbiskits, I have no idea what kind of chickens are in these eggs, except the blue and green (which would be Easter Eggers). But my pink/lavender looks pretty close to ninjapoodles, so maybe I've got a Buff Orpington in there!

OK, here's my update for today:

The massive huge egg quit. I opened it up to check and see how far it got. There was two yolks but only one chick. Unsure of why it quit other than the second infertile yolk was starting to puff up. Maybe it got smothered?

The other twins in the blue egg... I saw tiny little kickin' chicken feet! That shell is thin enough for me to really see into it with my light.

So now I am left with 7 eggs that have moving little embryos, one of which has the twins in it.

Quick update:

I candled this morning and all 7 eggs are still moving. The blue twins are getting very crowded. I don't know if they will make it to 21 days, but we're getting close now! Only 5 days until day 21, and these guys may hatch a day or two early considering the temps in my bator have been slightly elevated this time around. I went in there yesterday to find someone had knocked my heat controler out of place and the temp was at 104.

My books say that 107 for a still air incubator is the lethal temperature though, and they were moving today so I don't think I killed them. Time will tell.

I just had an epiphany. Much like how smaller eggs need a bit different TLC than larger eggs in incubation, perhaps the reason we can't seem to successfully hatch twins is that there has to be different temperatures/humidity for them, and we just haven't figured out the right method yet. If a baby chick starts producing its own body heat at a certain point inside the egg, then that has to make a twin egg get doubly warm at a certain stage. Perhaps a bit cooler temperatures would help them along?

I dunno, but thought it was worth sharing that thought.
