November 22: "Hatch Finished" Now with PIC'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm due on the 27th, day after Thanksgiving! I guess I won't be going to the Outer Banks for the holiday with the rest of my family! Oh well, this is more fun anyway! I probably won't even go to the in-laws for Turkey! I'll want to stay home and keep an eye on the eggs!

Ok...I am tossing my mixed breed backyard egg. I don't think it was fertile. Also 4 silkie eggs are out. I think one started to develop and quit, the other three never developed. So 10 viable eggs left. I'm ok with that it's only my second hatch and all my silkie eggs were shipped. Good luck everybody!

My Egyptian hen is sitting on 5 eggs of mixed types (one of her own) fertilized by our Silver Laced Polish rooster. We gave her the eggs late on Halloween so they are due to hatch on the 21st. This is our very first experience with hatching our own chicks. It motivated us to purchase an incubator and try to hatch 15 more eggs which were set the 8th of November over a two day period, which has me nervous.

Get me a total viable count when you can!

well that sounds neat! i will get you on the list. After a LONG period of saying i was going to candle and update the first page i finally found time today to do so. So....after the 13 eggs a set....im 5/5 on the Millies being fertile and i went 6 for 8 on my "top secret" banty cross eggs. So total im at 11 of 13 still going strong in the bator.

To everyone i have listed....GET ME YOUR VIABLE COUNT!!! lol....so i can change the list on the first page so everyone knows where everyone is at! Thanks

So i couldn't stand it so I candled a few more, most were developing nicely, had two that were clear as day, and one that had a crack, guess i missed it when I set them, but the embryo is still alive! The air cell is huge though, so I covered the crack with wax and wrapped the egg in a wet paper towel. It probably won't make it to hatch day, but worht a shot. I'll get that full count before I lock down on the 19th.
