November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Got another pip this morning. I haven't candled the other eggs that should hatch in the next day or so, so I don't know if they have pipped internally or not.

he looks like a turkey

love Max
have you had any babies with a prolapse vent? one of the little araucana's has...I'm cuddling it right now cause it had to have a bath and got upset....I guess when it wakes up if it hasn't corrected it's self I'll need to help it correct....hope it's not gonna be a problem with this little doll!!
I haven't . Sorry about your chickie.

Max has been watching my dog drink out of the toilet for months. He flew to the edge when he was little but couldn't reach, then he was to big and fell in when he tried from the edge. Today he was so excited, he showed me. He can stand on the ground and drink from the toilet. This is a proud day in turkey history.

I used a q tip and prep H to push the vent back up, every time it chirps it pops back out...I'm worried

In my experience, if you cannot keep the vent inside the body, then it will dry up and fall off - a process than can take a couple weeks, and the chick will have to be separated, so it doesn't get pecked while healing.

I would try everything to keep the vent back inside it's body ASAP, time is of the essence. I would take it off food for a day so you stop getting poops, and maybe bandaid the vent to keep it inside with prep H, cleaning often. You can feed electrolyte + probiotic water, and/or honey water to sustain life during this 1 day laxative fast.

I know you are a pro chick hatcher but maybe this will help in some way :)

Egg Update! In case you forgot, I started out with:
Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, received 10, set 9 (ALL detached air cells)
Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, received 15, set 15 (some detached air cells)

Today is day 15. I have not candled, weighed, or removed the eggs from the incubator until today. I have been hand turning them 3x per day. Using dry incubation method, forced air incubator, and an altered incubation plan for Detached air cells.

Ameraucanas: Culled 5 (4 left)
Wyandottes: Culled 10 (5 left)

Sad, sad day. I had high hopes that they would all be developing since I have treated them so gentle, but alas they were too damaged in shipment:

3 Wyandotte eggs had a small pea-sized embryo, early quitters.
1 Ameraucana egg was quite developed, probably died day 10-12 I would guess. It had a beak with egg tooth, and it's legs were up by it's head, but it didn't have well defined feet and claws yet. It had the beginnings of feathers, I think.
11 eggs did not develop at all, they had whole yolks and looked good enough for breakfast. That is at least a little easier to deal with than dead chicks.

All the eggs I eggtopsied had re-attached air cells, except 1 Ameraucana. It was one that never developed at all, whole yolk inside. It was the 1 egg that was significantly poop soiled (the rest were clean)

It's hard not to be disappointed, and it makes me want to swear off incubating shipped eggs... but let's be honest, that ain't gonna happen!
