November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

I was distracted by Max. I was stuck in September. When did it become October. I guess it is time to start making Max's costume for Holloween. She's dressing as a Native American.kk I had 9 Seramas hatch but 1 died. 1 Langshan, the other eggs DIDN"T MAKE IT> Max is on my kyboard again.

I ordered the mixed chicks from Greenfire. I am excited to see what I get. I have never spent that much on anything chicken related. But feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Max!

HAPPY to see a lot of chickie mommies and daddies having a few birthdays today ;) We hatched 9 yesterday threw last night and early this morning!! Still waiting on more the next few days! Its our first incubator hatch. We're hooked ;)

woke up this morning to two tiny serema chicks. Today is day 21 and I still have 5 blrw,5 Swedish flowers, 1 favorelle , 11 seremas,4 buff silkies,2 party silkies, and 7 paint silkies. so far have 2 seremas that hatched and 4 silkies 6 seremas and 1 Swedish flower that have pipped. so excited. Husband said this should be it cause I have 4 groups of different aged chicks that im trying to keep separated cause they pick on each other and im running out of room. but still have 6 tolbunt polish eggs coming in a week or two. lol told him we just have to build more partitions for the chicken coop. im addicted

Can doing the float test be detrimental?

i would have thought it would cause trouble with the eggs ability to exchange oxygen??

does anyone know of this, or have they tired the float test before??

D.gif
I did the float test for the first time last hatch.
It did not work for me..........
One egg that was active did not hatch and one egg that did not move, did hatch?????????
Now I do not have faith in the system.

Need help the two Serema's that hatched this morning are already fluffed up and I have one more that hatch that's half the size they are and they're picking it real bad do I take them out put them in the brooder or will they be ok

:drool I'm drooling over your whole batch! 0 of my 15 serama eggs made it, and I lost my only white and all 3 paint silkies I set this time, only have one black left. You have excellent taste in breeds. :p Good luck! C'mon babies!

If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to grab them and toss them in the brooder. Maybe spray a light mist over the remaining eggs afterwards incase of any humidity drop.

don't over think it just toss it! it must have gotten bacteria from the crack.....I went a head and hatched some eggs that were contaminated by a foul egg oozing on them and those babies died after they hatched some started bleeding from every orifice before they passed...don't risk it!

OK, thanks for all the advice. I smelled it again this morning, and any smell was extremely faint, but I'm going to be out all day and it would be a horrible time for anything to go wrong. The candle was so different from the other 3 blues, that I think I'm convinced it's not going to make it. I'll remove it for now and bury it later. I can't look inside!

thank you I waited a bit and now they are getting along im just scared if I open bator I will have to assist over 20 chicks cause of the humidity. I have so many pips and of course some I cant see cause the chicks are nocking them around. I cant beleave how small this one is just a little bigger then my thumb
