November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

One of my roo's is harassing my broody when she goes on break. He insists on mounting her and she's doesn't want it. Is that normal behavior? He is young, and she's a first time broody.

Sounds like he is suffering from STUPID.......................My young roo was awful until I put him in a pen with my old hens.
They kicked the crap out of him and he has manners now..............You may not have that option?
Anyway you can just keep him away from her..............Doubt he will settle down for awhile.............

Omg, can you really potty train your turkey!?

Can I potty-train a silkie?
Haha, probably not- but I did buy cute lil yellow bubble bee and sunflower diapers for my chickens. :x

Btw, I was relieved to hear Max was alright! I was kind of worried the last time I heard he was cold and yada yada :c
I don't see why not. I put Max in bed when I did my second round of chicken chores today and no poops. We took a nap, still clean. The we will work on the floor next.

So, I'm working on getting my incubator ready, hoping to have it done by the 10th (preferably before), but I'm a little confused at the moment. I have two thermometers in it, and they both have read the same temp the past day and a half; consistently around 100-101. But when I put my hand inside it, it just doesn't feel like 100 degrees to me. I'm at a loss of what to even think with that one...

I don't have a hygrometer yet, because I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere so they don't sell any around here, and I don't have a debit/credit card so I can't order online (SOMEONE melted the one I had before, so I need a new one). But I'm going out of town on Wednesday, so I'll pick up one then (and probably one or two more thermometers...).

So far I only have three eggs from my only laying pullet. For some strange reason she felt like sitting on the fake rock egg I have in one of the nest boxes the day before yesterday, though not for very long, so she didn't lay that day... Do Delawares go broody? She just doesn't seem the type...
Walmart (if the town you're goingto has one) has one I've been using, 5 actually. It's about $9. You can call ahead or order it online to be picked up at the store you will be going to, to make sure it's there.

We have hit the halfway mark in our hatch, 47 went in, removed 13 clears on Day 7. Weighed the remainders in and weights are on track for the correct loss.

Can't wait to meet a few fuzz butts!

I have had eggs get veins after day 7 and sometimes they are in the middle of the air cell and don't show for a few more days. I wait until day 14 to remove clears.

Oh! How did you potty-train? c:

it's hard to say about the veining without seeing it
the saddle shape is common with shipped eggs....unfortunately with shipped eggs the hatch rate is typically less than 50%....very rarely I have a better rate than that...caused by damage during shipping...if I start with, just say 12, maybe 8 or 9 will even start...then a few quitters...so if 6 go into lock down I'm glad if 4 or 5 hatch...
some of the time it's obvious at hatch that the breeders birds aren't as healthy as I try to keep mine because the chicks will die within a few days...
my hope is to add to my flock the rare birds and breed them...I know those will be healthy...

It was late when I got home and all Max's jammies are too small, so we went to bed with out them.  Max didn't poop in bed!!!!  Yeah Max!:ya   One steo closer to potty training my turkey.

Yeah!  Is it the cayuga?
No my Cayuga is due 10/20.
But out of ten eggs in lockdown, 6 have hatched. 5 black one blonde
