it's that time of year...less light less eggs...some are more finicky than others. some days every hen lays and some days I get 2 or 3 eggs...a month ago I couldn't sell them fast enough...but you know spring you'll be set!!!

it's gonna be so fun breeding next year!!!

anyway...yes your best hope of know anything is if you hold the egg perfectly still and you see a sort wave or bounce motion!! :yiipchick

They are a cross between RIR and White Plymoth Rock, or so I'm told. I'm going to wait another 24 hours and check again - see if I can see a wave!

oh...that's a sex link...do a search for sex links...there are sites that will tell you what breeds make what kind of sex link...one of the great things is you can tell the sex when they hatch...but the web sites can explain things better....I don't remember everything.

Eek! I just preordered 4 lavender leghorn chicks for next spring - 2 of each sex so I can breed and also work on Isabelle Leghorns!! Have you ordered from Old Orchard before? I've had a few people tell me that they ordered expensive eggs but when they hatched, they weren't what they ordered.

I keep seeing my roo mount one of my laying hens but I haven't seen any eggs laid in the nest for about 5 days now. Shouldn't I see her laying an egg?

My roosters, even the 1 & 3 month olds, have decided to mate with anything. Just in the last few days. Very strange. They were all so shy and now I feel like I'm in a chicken porn. Only 2 of my hens even lay eggs.

Ok isn't it weird that the viens arnt visable anymore?

Change your batteries. They might still be there and your batteries are weakening.

Roosters won't "cover" a hen unless she is mature. Unless your roo is a weirdo....lol

My roosters didn't get that memo.

Hey yall!!

I've had some chickens for awhile, primarily for eggs, then I started to get attached, reading some books, learning, and so on.
I decided I wanted to hatch some eggs.
I have these 4 hens and 1 roo. (I think they are RIR? not too sure about the white one
If anyone has breed suggestions I'm all ears.)

well these wonderful group of chickens laid me these eggs,

3 weeks (october 14) later I get these little peeps.

now I knew(assumed) from my white eggs I'd get white chicks and my red ones would be red.
my question is can anyone tell me why some of my yellow chicks have a black spot on them?


Thanks for any help. This was my first hatch EVER and the honest truth is I can't wait to do it again. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can form this hatch.
