November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Here are the two newest members of my flock. I am hoping they are joined by several (5) more siblings over night. The little blonde one is a Silver Penciled Wy, the Little Black one is Delaware over CA Grey. I think that makes a sex link and judging by the white spot I think the little black one is a boy.

May everyone else get loads of pullets to hatch!!

Hey yall!!

I've had some chickens for awhile, primarily for eggs, then I started to get attached, reading some books, learning, and so on.
I decided I wanted to hatch some eggs.
I have these 4 hens and 1 roo. (I think they are RIR? not too sure about the white one
If anyone has breed suggestions I'm all ears.)

well these wonderful group of chickens laid me these eggs,

3 weeks (october 14) later I get these little peeps.

now I knew(assumed) from my white eggs I'd get white chicks and my red ones would be red.
my question is can anyone tell me why some of my yellow chicks have a black spot on them?

Thanks for any help. This was my first hatch EVER and the honest truth is I can't wait to do it again. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can form this hatch.

Sincerely,
my heart has been stolen by these dang chickens

I think the white one is a leghorn, the other a red sex link and 3 Rhode Island Reds

oh...that's a sex link...do a search for sex links...there are sites that will tell you what breeds make what kind of sex link...one of the great things is you can tell the sex when they hatch...but the web sites can explain things better....I don't remember everything.

Very interesting stuff! If they hatch, it will be cool to see what comes out...I guess that's always part of the excitement.

Ack... I'm going to go crazy! Congrats to all you having successful hatches. I just want to have some fluffy butts to take care of. But I am still unsure about my eggs. Today's day 8, and I couldn't stop myself from candling! But I'm a newbie, so I don't know what I'm doing.

I haven't seen veining at all. But here's what I am seeing (I need to get a pic, but it's hard to candle and take photos at the same time.): The air sacs are getting bigger, but doesn't that happen even if the egg is not developing? The round yolks are now bigger oddly shaped blobs - about 1/6 the size of the egg. Sometimes I think I saw movement, but that it could be my imagination. You guys are going to get pretty sick of me, I think!

Here's a picture of my eggs in the bator - are they dark enough to make veining hard to see if the light is not bright enough?

Your best bet is to look right at the edge of the air cell for veining. You can see it right around the edge. Then let them be unless they start stinking or weeping.
