November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

I purchased a dozen eggs on the internet via ebay... we hade 6 chicks hatch on Thanksgiving and 3 that did not hatch (there was a fully formed chick in the eggs, but did not hatch) This was out first time we hatched cicks. It was a lot of fun to watch the development of the egg and to watch all 6 eggs hatch!




We have Hercules, Marbles, Red Neck, Slow Poke, Zippy and Chewy

I was camping out on the floor in the living room next to the incubator. I just woke up to check on the little pip and you could see the beak sticking out was open an still the bit of flesh that appeared to be pink moving and pulsating was still and gray. I know its "lock down" should I leave the egg in the bator. this is so sad. I can clearly see that it is dead

Still only one chick and no more pips. BUT there's a whole lot of rockin and rollin going on in my bator this morning! I was really hoping they would hatch before I went back to work tomorrow. We will see! Hubby will be forced to sit by the bator sending me pic updates if not! Poor hubby! haha! In the mean time, sitting on my hands reminding myself that it's not even day 22 until 3 pm today!!

Oh! And emailed a pic to the breeder and she said she think my little one is EE crossed with Old English Black Orpington. Said she has made this combo before and they are always beautiful and sweet! It's a cutie right now, for sure!!

SO i took the dead egg out because i didn't want the kids to see. its so sad I think he drowned maybe? Stuck to the side or deformed? These are eggs that were severely shooken up in shipping only 5 out od 24 made it to lock down...

Friday was day 14 for my 2nd try at the Runner Ducks out of 36 eggs 20 have veins and movement ! Im happy that there were so many at this half way point !

yeah! I candled my babies all have veins, the standard sized eggs have eyes I didn't look as close at the bantams, one bantam had an embryo but was not as advanced. I put him under a broody may be he needed a mother's touch.

WELP.. I have myself pretty much convinced that I should buy another incubator and set these eggs today. anyone want to tell me different???

Woke up to still no more pips, just my one little chick still this morning. It will be day 23 at 3:00 today. There is one egg that I KNOW if moving. I just don't understand. All but 2 of my eggs looked GREAT at lockdown. Really starting to lose some hope at this point. If anything I expected early hatchers because of my high temp spikes. I did have one time where the temp dipped a little also tho. I'mjust trying to keep my hopes up for my other 12 eggs at this point. If I have yet another 1/13 hatch I don't know if I will have the heart to keep hatching. I LOVE it and it's very addicting, but I KNOW there were babies in those eggs. It would break my heart if something happened to 12 of them that far into the process!

Another pip this morning. Candled the egg yesterday and it had pipped internally. I love tapping the egg and hearing/feeling the baby tap back...
