I'm about 100 pages behind so I'm going to give up on catching up and just start over!!!

Hope everyone has been doing good! After what happened with my last hatch losing almost $200 in eggs I swore of incubating, but caught the bug and loaded it back up!

I have a few black copper marans and olive eggers on lockdown right now.

I also just ordered a copious amount of coturnix quail eggs! They seem to only be sold in mass quantities. Anyone hatch them before??? Should be here Wednesday

I have a few bators full.....Araucana's, ameracauna's, candy corn polish, blue orps and lavender orps....oh ya and some BC Marans due to be delivered today....I sold some from my last hatch and ended up with a bunch of roos so I'm hatching more to make breeding trios for sale! your caught up on me lol

yes they are so GORGEOUS but the box came with 2 broken out of 5...the 3 have started but don't hold your breath yet!!! I'm so hoping

K. Just checking. And you may have answered this already, but wear do you keep your humidity 1-18 and 18-21? I've read the article, I'm just wondering about others who have done it. Kind of gathering a consensus before I start this hatch. I have my bator running now. It's only been on for about an hour. I've added NO water and humidity is at 15% on my dial hygrometer and 44% on my digital!! starting to wonder if I have had hygrometer issues but before I never had a huge variation like that. You would THINK the dial would be accurate for sure, but who knows. After reading up about chick mortality I REALLY think it was a humidity issue, as many of you suggested. Guess I need to invest in ANOTHER set of thermometer/hygrometers! Oh well!

Yes. BUT I can NOT get my bator to run with normal humidity. It has been running like 16% or lower!! I know it shouldn't go below 25%. I am just testing right now, no eggs in yet. Haven't installed my dimmer switch yet, but think I will have to do that the next day or so. I ran it overnight with a 60 watt and woke up to a bator that was 120 degrees plus!! I used a 60 the entire last hatch with no problem, so I guess it's just due to the dry hatch part. I changed out my bulb to 40 watt again and left it running today while at work. I will check it when I get home and hope that temp is lower and humidity is higher! My room humidity is about 50% and I have 4 vent holes, completely uncovered . I am going to try placing a piece of damp sponge in the bator tonight and see if that helps with humidity. SO...I'm getting there but still haven't gotten the bator running how I want it to be. I have some eggs on the way (YAY!!!) so I really want to have it perfect and tested for a while before setting them. Since they are shipped eggs, I should allow them to rest a day or 2 before setting, right? This is my first attempt at shipped eggs. Thanks for your help!

Candy corn polish!! Yay!! Hope that they continue to grow and develop for you! I have wanted Polish for a LOOOONG time and I LOVE the candy corn. So pretty!! You've got lots of good ones going right now. Love those orps too! Did I mention that I think our little one is crossed with a BLUE orp, not black?? She is looking more and more blue as her feathers come in.

Quote: when you set the eggs the humidity will regulate according to the evaporation of the eggs...during a dry hatch if it's up to 45% it's fine....but if it's higher sit a small bowl of rice in it....if it goes below 25 when the eggs start evaporating then add a small amount of water at a time until it's over 25....until lock down....then anything over 45% is fine....45% to 65%...if it goes higher as they hatch it'll be fine
