November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

So sorry for your loss.

I did not hatch these ones but someone did, and they were hatched in November so I'm posting them here!

Happy early Christmas to me. DD's bought me four Ancona ducklings! Two didn't survive shipping but the package was insured so we'll get replacement ducklings. My girls are so good at secret squirrel missions. They managed to find the person I wanted to order them from, order them and keep it a secret for MONTHS.

Thank you! I think someone knew I was gonna need to be busy today to stay focussed. This is the first chick Gobbles, everyone else is still taking their sweet time and just talking to each other, for some reason I expected her/him to be black or brown.

OK...I played photographer today...just wish I had a better camera.

First off....these are my "penguins". Funny how they look more like penguins in "person". lol Still, I thought it'd be a cute set up:

The one on the left we call "Mumble". He was my malpositioned chick.

Next are my naked neck girls, or Turkens if you'd like: (Some people-I won't name names...lol. Think they are a little circus side show freaky, so:

They were somewhat reluctant to show their naked necks....lol. After the first was hatched my son wanted to name it David, when I finally got to the reason why it boiled down to naming him after "you know, that naked statue-his name is David." So, apparently he learned something in our Italy lesson last year...lol Thanks Michaelangelo!

These guys/girls are my black skinned extra toed feather footed knights;

My classical yellow/orange chicks:

The more orangish colored one was our first hatcher. My son named it "Rollie" because she/he rolled out of it's shell and rolled again to get to it's feet...lol

These two are what I call my 'dark chocolates'... lol Black skinned and reddish brown down.

And lastly is "Chip". This little one managed to chip his bottom beak while still in the incubator. (Of course there were 7 of them at that time bouncing around on each other.) He probably hit a thermometer as he was in the corner bouncing when it happened. He's handled it well though.

They are all barnyard surprises. Have no clue the crosses. I can pick out some of the more common features. They all came from brown (mostly light brown almost pinkish) eggs. One Turken came from a green egg. What ever the breeds. I am totally smitten with my crew. Just hope the majority is hens, I only plan on keeping two roos and it'll be he$$ trying to pick. Sorry so many pics...proud momma here!

Congrats to you both!!! So beautiful!

At 4:05 I had my first chick hatch!!! The only brown egg, third to pip and fist to hatch! OMG I didn't totally screw up and I so needed this today! New life when the old passes helps so much. Pictures will follow.

Please if you will, say a goodbye for my dog Tequila. He was 16 and his quality of life was such that we sent him to the rainbow bridge today. He was such a great dog.

Goodbye, Tequila. Good dog. I am sorry for your loss, Dcat, but I am glad that he is not suffering and hope that you were able to make your decision without too much anguish. It's a hard one to make.

On the other hand, grats on your first chick, it's adorable!

@AmyLynn2374 your pictures are cute, lol.

In other news, my pip has extended itself after nine long, agonizing hours. Maybe at least one chick will hatch the right way instead of me having to go in after it.
