November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I got one to hatch right, yay!

He sat there all day and then went entirely around his shell in less than an hour. Then he just exploded out of it and his head unwound like a carpet being rolled out on the floor. WOW

So sorry for your loss.

I did not hatch these ones but someone did, and they were hatched in November so I'm posting them here!

Happy early Christmas to me. DD's bought me four Ancona ducklings! Two didn't survive shipping but the package was insured so we'll get replacement ducklings. My girls are so good at secret squirrel missions. They managed to find the person I wanted to order them from, order them and keep it a secret for MONTHS.

SO CUTE!!! I love Anconas so much!

My Anconas are due to hatch in 10 days... I can't wait to see what colors they will be. In my last hatch I got one that was mostly/all yellow.... his feathers are coming in Lilac!!

Sooooooooo Happy for you.

I candled my Rouen and crested cream legbar eggs last night on Day 15 (Day 16 according to Hatchabatch). All the duckies were vigorously paddling around. 8 of the 9 CCLs were wiggly. I eggtopsied the quitter. It was about half a centimeter long, like a very large cashew with an eye. About what day is that? Some of the CCLs were hard to tell, but I'm pretty sure I saw some motion, even in the most opaque of the eggs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

there is a development chart on byc. If this does not paste, try a search. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...charts-on-page-one-post-one-newcomers-welcome

OK - day 7, so did the candle. Out of the remaining 11 (one got hit by an egg-eater on Day 2), I have 9 remaining. Two of the white eggs (either Buttercup or Blue Andalusian hen) were infertile. I still have two of those Mediterranean eggs left, and everyone else (even the EE) looked good and strong. One question: I swear I saw independent movement while holding the egg perfectly still. Isn't it a bit early for that? Either way, Peggy the Black Cochin seems a little more comfortable with the reduced spread, and she can better concentrate on her job.

The new comer. It's a boy. :) At least five of the remaining eggs are still alive, although none of them look to be making an appearance tonight.

Okay, it is day 6 for me. Out of my 18 eggs, 16 have visible veins. Egg #10 has lots of speckles when I candle it so its hard to tell if there is veins. Egg #18 looks like it has a blood ring but it may be a vein. So, if all goes well, I will have at least 16 eggs on the 22nd!
