Question for you all.
One of my chicks that is still in the incubator is out of the egg but still has some membrane or something stuck to the umbilical cord. It is very moist and she is not moving around. She is the last chick to hatch, so I'm not worried about humidity anymore. Should I lower the humidity and hope it dries up? Or what should I do with her? Temp is 98 with about 65% humidity. She is sleeping and seems pretty weak.

There is a previous reply that suggests cutting it about a quarter to a half inch long. I have done this also. I have had the chick tear it off and bleed quite a bit before. Your call. Last hatch so you do not need the humidity.

What color is the membrane? In my last hatchi had two that had a bit of yolk sac dangling for a bit when they hatched. One came off naturally, but the other I snipped the umbilical cord. They both had red, raw looking navels. The first one was one of the early hatches and another chick was with it. They hatched in the evening and I left them in the incubator overnight. By morning, the yolk was off and the chick was robust, so they went straight into the brooder.

The second chick with cord and emptied yolk sac dangling was the one that had been cemented into the egg. It wasn't strong, was stepping on the dingleberry, etc, so I snipped the cord and put a dab of antibiotic ointment on the raw navel.

Statted with 16 eggs lost 2 to bacteria ring of death on was not fertal other 13 look great 10 days to go. Then its time to buy a digital gague to replace that crapy disc thing.

Hi everyone! I ended up out of 13 eggs shipped, 5 were viable, 1 blood ring at day 7 candle, 4 eggs to lockdown: ended with 2 CCL : 1 roo and 1 pullet. I helped both by morning. One egg had mostly zipped but just was taking a very long time and the other pip that was first hadn't done anything. I decided to help, mostly zipped egg was easy and was no problem, the first pip I thought had died but was ok, just was tired I guess, once i helped I put him back with just the bottom part of egg and he got out a little later and was fine. I opened the other 2 eggs, the 1 egg much to my surprise actually was still alive but not sure what was wrong unless I killed it but I really believe it was going to die either way, it hadn't absorbed the yoke and was malpositioned. I left it in the egg with just its head out with wet paper towel wrapped around and it was breathing but not good and within about 30 min. died. the 2nd egg I think died rt before lockdown. None of the chicks were crazy lively but the pair seems to be doing very good now I will take some pictures soon. I have to figure out where I'm going to put everything!! I have to stop for a while before I really go crazy...lol I couldn't resist and bought 10 chicks: 5 light brahmas and 5 silver laced wyandottes at the auction for really cheep. I have this pair that just hatched and I just realized I have 25 eggs in the bator!!!! They are due as follows 13 eggs on the 15th and the other 10 between the 26th to the 28th....LOL Can you say nuts! These are local eggs and some from my own Congrats to everyone on there chicks!!

Lockdown was this morning! Eight crested cream legbars! I also have 4 Rouens due a week later.

Now I want to start another clutch! I will have to live vicariously through all of you now that the waiting and sudden excitement is over. These five chicks will be going to a new home soon and I still have to clean and sanitize the incubator and wait for March. I have a pretty cool Easter hatch planned, for me at least. All these beautiful babies just keep my heart going.
