November Hatch-A-Long (2014)

I posted a page back or so about my chick doing close the same thing. The chick external pipped and zipped in two hours. It's been about seven hours since hatch and he/she is fine but I also left him/her in the incubator until just now when I opened it to take the picture. I also have the shelf lining from the dollar store that is smooth so the yolk cannot get caught on anything. Here is my baby and so far so good. Chirping away when not sleeping

Mine looks similar with the butt part. How long did it take it to absorb the yolk or did it fall off? They still have red blood vessels everywhere on it.

That picture I just took a couple of minutes ago. My understanding is it can take a day or so. I'm leaving him/her in the incubator and not opening it. I'm pretty sure it's a waiting game now. I think I read somewhere the more the chick is stressed and moving around the less chance you have of the chick surviving.

I know someone who put corn starch on the yolk sac. Within two days you couldn't even tell where it had been and the chick is thriving now. She said that she did it because it would dry out the sac and help it to scab over and prevent the intestines from coming out.

Thank you. I will just join the waiting game now. I'm hoping this is a fluke and I don't have this happen again. It's been nerve wracking. The last 2 are cuddled up and sleeping. It just shocks me how strong they are even with everything going on. I'll have to give the corn starch a go, then I'm going to bed. All this hatching has me worn out

I talked to the breeder and they are a blue (smaller one most likely a boy) and lilac for the bigger one (most likely a girl).

So adorable!! They grow so fast! My lilac baby has feathers coming in so I am starting to see his spots... hoping it's a drake. My 10 Anconas should hatch this weekend... they should be different colors, can't wait to see!

I have my first pip!!! On day 25, I can barely believe it... or maybe it is the beginning of day 26? It seems so early in any case. I have one egg working on a wrong end pip too... it had a huge air cell so I had it in my hatcher a couple days early... so happy it is still kicking! I have too many birds in my house though... I can barely hear the egg chirps.

Good morning!! My update, I have 2 hatched and 8 pipped so far !! Only 3 eggs left to pip and then for everyone to hatch and be healthy!! Going to get a little noisy in the room soon!!

Good morning! I had 7 chicks hatch over night. I am a little nervous about the eggs rolling around they were. I still have 2 duck babies that have yet to hatch they are both moving just taking their sweet time. One of the babies that still had the yolk must have been picked on, or his little yolk must have been stepped on because his intestines were outside of his body this morning. It was obvious and there is blood all over on the bottom of the bator, but it was still alive. I had to get the old man out of bed to take care of it. I can hatch, deal w crazy things that happen, open eggs of dead chicks and try to figure out what went wrong, but I can not take a just hatched, not even day old chick and put it out of its misery

On the bright side, one of them is thriving and is going nuts, he never stops peeping or running around... (was gonna say like a chicken w his head cut off, but don't think that's appropriate for chicks just hatched Lmao)
