it’s been a weird trend this year in hatch a Longs that most mottled orpingtons are boys. Hope you break the mold and get all the pullets!!!!

I hope so to, but a nice cockerel or two wouldn’t bother me any. I’m planning on setting up breeding pens with them.

Just did a candling a week before hatch day, 40 eggs candled, no blood rings in any egg. Every egg seems to be developing just fine. Lockdown in 4 days. I need to start moving chicks to their next stage brooders and get some brooder cleanings done.

I usually hatch about 20 birds, once I came close to 40 and scrambled to find brooder space for all of them.

How big a brooder space to you use for a 20 chick hatch? And for how long? At what age do you intro them to the flock or their own permanent coop space?
