November Hatch-a-long...

Pics
So, of my three that I dont know the gestational age of, how far along do we think this egg is? Amazon literally dropped my hatcher-bator off an hour ago, and I've got it warming up. I swear I heard a pip, but that could have been my cameras clicking to/from night vision...View attachment 1950246

it doesn’t look drawing down yet in that photo. When it’s starts to draw down, you’ll see shadows in the air cell and when it actually pops you’ll see a huge triangular shadow of the beak. What first looks like a pip is often movement against the membrane getting things into position.

I wouldn’t be too freaked out with 55%, but can you plug some holes or add another bowl/sponge? You could tape some holes shut...

I held it up to my ear - I can hear it pipping. As for the holes, they are very tiny on the bottom of the incubator, and there is no way for me to plug them without having to set the whole thing back up. I am going to try adding a sponge... If I can find one!

that incubator is deep enough you can set a tall cup in there. Something heavy and wide and tall so that nothing can get into it when it hatches. A glass measuring cup is great. Fill it with warm water before putting it in or it will have to come to temp before you’ll see the change in humidity. I don’t use the wells in that bator and just use two cups.

These are from my Halloween hatch, but one was born yesterday. I opened the egg and it was barely alive, but it's doing better today.

I'm washing out the bator today to set more eggs, I have 14 eggs but I may add more from the ones laid today. I'll be setting tomorrow afternoon .

Adore that chick!!!! Do you have any gold laced chickens?
I do but they're not laying (golden laced polish) and I'm not sure BJG could breed with them. This is a RSL/BJG. I also have Delaware/BJG cross.

I'm putting mystery barnyard mix (5 eggs from local farm) in plus RSL/BJG, Delaware/BJG, Cochin/BJG, and BR/BJG.

I came up with names for that chick... Caramel, Butterscotch, and Scotch. I'm sure I'll have others.

they're so pretty! Hopefully some sort of really cool color pattern will come out. I bought a lot of project pen eggs recently and some of the laced projects hatched JUST like that.

Love your tattoos on the wrists.
Thanks. I have 13 tattoos. I'm thinking about doing a sleeve with my own chickens and farm animals.

I can't wait until they feather out! I was told that I was supposed to just have straight black chicks. I have no solid black ones, it's weird.
