November hatch along, anyone?

Hey everyone!
Use too! We set on the 8th
We are incubating 6 lavenders
I’m having a heck of a time with my humidity rising though. It’s causing me some frustrations

Also my little bantam pictured in my profile went MIA (I was worried we lost her) then at this mornings feed she came barreling out of the horse area of our barn like a bat out of hell making all kinds of noice. Havent seen her for over a week. She’s clearly gone broody. Tomorrow morning I’ll oay closer attention as to where she comes running from. Fingers crossed I find her stash of soon to be babies. I’ll assume she’s about a week in. Maybe 2 :)

Hello!!

We are hatching buddies, my eggs were set the 8th as well. I am also having a horrible time with keeping my humidity at a normal level. We run a wood stove so it is sucking all the humidity out of this whole house and I am still trying to figure out how to compensate for it. I plan to candle tonight to see how many of my guys are developing and take a look at air sacs!
Happy hatching:celebrate

Tag me in your results! I plan on waiting a bit before checking as we’ve set lavenders I’ve been told they take acouple more days before there’s vein visibility. I have a good feeling I’m not dealing with fertile eggs as I haven’t seen my roosters getting busy lately. Maybe the cold whether coming over us is playing a factor there ‍♀️ But we will see. I did notice one of my eggs had a small hairline crack in it I fixed with nail polish. I wonder if this contributes to the uncontrollable humidity? I’m holding 45% give it take but thinking of adding a wee rice to bring it down more. I don’t have any vessels in my incubator. The instructions say to pour the water in the bottom. Which clearly didn’t work as it was WAY to much surface. Good luck!! Keep me posted :)

I have had good results with sealing hairline cracks with a drop of candle wax, nail polish might have chemicals that will penetrate the egg? ( I have no idea, just my first thought)

I have 3 lavenders in the incubator so I will make sure to note if I can see any development on them at all. I set 29 eggs, all pure bred but about 10 different varieties. I just got a variety pack from a lady who has all different breeding pairs to add some diversity to my flock. This is the first time I have attempted to hatch eggs that wern’t my own and I am really excited to get some new breeds!

Exciting!!! We have a large variety as well but ours free range all over the farm. So we are a mixed bunch. Which to be honest I’m excited to see what they look like lol “who’s the daddy” and really i must be honest with myself. I’m not 100% the are lavenders. Every once in awhile all the girls decide to lay all in one box. So they maybe sexlinks, their eggs seem similar LoL I’m such a newbie lol This venture started when we moved to the farm and acquired some chickens along with it a year ago. Horses still are fans of the noisy cluckers lol

ANYWAYS,

Next time I come across a crack I will use some candle wax. It was a panic notion. But have read online it’s ok. I do agree though that wax is better suited as nail polish is yuk with those chemicals. We will see I suppose.

Prior to posting this I added some aluminum foil over half the little dish I am using for water. Seemed to work. Down to 40%. Fingers crossed I can maintain this.

I wasn't planning on setting till the end of December but started getting some really dark eggs after molt and I had 4 chicks hatch November 1 and another 3 on Nov, 6.
There are 5 eggs due on the 24th and I just set another 6 eggs due Dec. 4.
I swear I'm going to sit on my hands and set no more till mid December - or until I get a couple more buildings constructed.

I had no intentions of setting this late in the year but when eggs are dropped in your lap you have to dig out the incubator!

My chickens are all free range barn yard mix’s as well so I am looking forward to having some pure bloods that I can separate and experiment with if I feel the need.

I am in rural Ontario so I am wondering if I am little crazy hatching chicks this time of year and moving them outside right away but I do have a sheltered shed for them and have faith in the MHP that @Blooie designed. I have been using it since my first hatch and it has never let me down!

I put 8 Tolbunt Polish eggs in the bator last night and have 2 more to add to it. All from the same pullet. Hoping for another great hatch!

My neighbor raises Polish chicks and they are adorable. I hatched a polish egg she gave me this past summer and my daughter loved it but unfortunately it drowned in my duck water pail. I am still unsure how it got in their as the chick was 4” tall and the pail was over 15”. I hope to try a few more next summer. Please post baby pics!
