November Hatch -- Who's going to have late fall babies?

Babies, babies everywhere. 15 of 16 have hatched, 1 fell out of the nest and died

and 1 egg is left under the silkie.

To all the cute pictures: Awwwww!

I just turned my eggs for the last time. Hatch date is Thursday. I'm hoping they don't pop early. I want time to play with them.

The brooder is nearly ready for them. I need to trim the shelf liner for the bottom & sanitize a waterer & have that ready to fill.

I hung the light and turned it on an hour ago. I need to check the temperature for a few days because this is a new brooder and I've set the light up differently. I may end up needing to go out and get some different sized heat bulbs. Best to know that now so I can fit that in my busy week!

Really need to pick up a new thermometer, too. The old one still works but the screen is a bit messed up...

20 coturnix eggs are in the incubator. 15 are from a BYC member. 5 are from my birds. I am pretty sure mine were not fertile - Mr. Roo entered moult right after. Coturnix eggs are awful to candle, though.

I'm pretty sure I saw evidence of something in a couple of eggs but most of them are too dark to see through.

One of the 9 bantam Barnevelder eggs has hatched; I don't think the others will hatch. I forgot to take the egg divider rails out at lockdown and only one egg was on its side - that's the one that hatched yesterday. (I've had company for a week and got distracted..... dang it! However, my guest got to see the pip, the zip, and the new hatchling. She also saw it this morning all fluffed up and read to go into the brooder.)

Today I put that baby in the brooder with 14 other chicks a week old.

Yesterday I moved 14 OTHER (three-week old) chicks out into their own, new coop, with a heat lamp for the nights. They're quite happy with more room AND two little roosts for them.

I have a couple more incubators with eggs due on 11/26 and 11/30.

My company left this morning and she now understands the excitement I feel with hatching. She's not a chicken person, but she tries.

I am soooo disappointed. I spent sooo much money on all the eggs in the incubators above. I could have bought a TON of day olds at this rate. The incubatorrs ARE maintaining exact temp of 99.5 and 50% humidity. (I am using four different thermometers) This is what I ordered and all were quickly shipped and arrived fine. I let them set for 8 hours before incubating so the aircell could set. Is this normal for shipped eggs? or WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? besides spending so much.

$35.00 14-Blue Jersey Giants shipped from Florida- 6 going strong
$57.00 24-Silkies shipped from TN- 6 still going 4 late quitters *seller did agree to replace over a dozen FOC
$14.00 20-Pure Mix shipped from MS- 8 going strong
$28.00 6-Turkeys shipped from Upstate NY- 5 going strong
$23.00 20 Quail shipped from Florida- can't tell
$25.00 8 Runner Ducks from NJ- 8 going strong
$11.00 10 Runner Ducks from SC- 9 going strong
$15.00 6 Ring Neck Pheasant shipped from LA- can't tell
$13.50 12 Brahmas shipped from Florida- 6 in lock down

Everything is due to hatch this week except the runners & turkeys.

It seems majority woudn't even start, and then they are dropping off quick. The Turkeys and the runners were only set on the 4th so time will tell with them.
I had figured on 50% hatching...
PLEASE HELP any advise would be appreciated.

Well, my neighbor has electric and a incubater to boot. She has incubated some of my eggs and 6 have hatched so far. Mommy is a white silky and daddy is a white showgirl I bought from the club. So far, 4 showgirls and 2 silkies. She has them in a broader and I am dying to see them. She is trying to hatch me some copper marins from her birds.
I expect more chicks to hatch on monday. Will see about pics then.

karaokechick it's the mail service I'm lucky to get 50% just now from 13 eggs I have 5 making it if 3 hatch it will be normal. From my own eggs I set 2 hatched 2 and on my turkeys who are young first time laying from 7 I have 5 good ones the 2 that were duds were not fertile. Too bad you can't find local eggs you would feel like you can hatch...Once I had shipped eggs and from 38 I had 34 hatch..once I had 15 and had 11 hatch it doesn't happen often.

So...With the eggs being shipped I'm looking at about a 30% hatch rate? That bites !!!

All these eggs were meticulously wrapped too, and arrived in like three days! I met the postman at the door, so they didn't sit out in the heat either! Being a newbie I figured about 50%, but then I bought my brinsea and thought that would improve my rate.
Although I am still trying to find people here to buy eggs from, I'm new to the area, so I know it will take time.
Thanks for the heads up!
