When I start having to buy feed weekly instead of bi-weekly, that's when I know it's bad! I only have dry storage space for 150# lol

space? Whats that? I cant remember the last time i had free space. feed, by the way, is priority at my house, by which i mean if need be it will be stored in the spare bedroom. lol. This is the easy time of year. back in the early summer, i was buying about 600-700 pounds of feed a week for everything.

now we're back down to about 300-350.

Hahaha I live in a 560sq ft house with two Large dogs and an XL hubby. There isn't really room in here for extra feed sacks, but I HAVE done it! When I brood chicks inside I put them in a rubbermaid on top of the dog's crates, so that not only are they safe from the dog's licks, but not taking up any extra space. Har har!

I have 2 Production eggs in the bator and haven't looked to see what might be going on. I checked temps and humidity's but that's it. fed and watered the live birds. Rescued a quail and have her in a recovery cage. Poor thing had to be stuck for hours. We went to the auction today and when we got back with out booty and got them all comfortable and fed in their new home I left again to go and get my daughter and her other son. We took the 2 oldest with us. We had our thanksgiving dinner today and today was my first day to tend to my sister n law next door and I wasn't able to get there till this evening. I brought her some food and took the dog out and hung around for some good conversation, then back to my nightmare at my house with 3 boys going as hard as they could. the little nightmares where asleep and I really wan to go to bed but it's so darn quiet in here I just want to absorb it a bit first.

I have a sory but i'll go to another thread. This isn't the place. lol

Day 20 and nothing has pipped yet. I toldja these might hatch "on time" rather than early. Just crossing my fingers that they DO hatch in the next day or two.
I'm gonna be off all day tomorrow, but working on expanding my chicken pen to sustain my hatching addiction, uh, I mean accommodate more birds, no I mean....make the biddies more comfortable. Yeah. That. So maybe my nose won't be glued to the 'bator and some will hatch while I'm not looking

I love frizzles. I can always use silkie hens but i'm cockerel poor. I have a lavender split roo that I need to move into another pen with the blue girl so maybe they will get to know each other. Now that I have some empty pens I can separate the silkies into pens for the winter. I need to go and get some straw or hay for nests and warmth first. They would be going into the shed and replacing the quail that are getting processed. I will be able to tend to them better, I think. Maybe if we just build 2 walls and put in a door and made separate stalls in that room for the different colors, that would work and they would stay warm and out of the weather for he winter. We could give the Turkeys their pen for the winter. I think I just figured it out.

When we put the turkeys in the side of the coop that already had a goat, duckling and 5 oegb's. The goat didn't know what to think and the turkeys where too busy getting streached out. I can't believe we got them in that cage. After they managed to streach out and fluff up it was amazing. I had no idea they where so big. It further amazed me DH got them in that cage. The cage sat in the back seat with the 2 grandsons and they where squashed. Apparently so where the birds.

And we got 2 drakes that are the prettiest ducks i've ever seen. They are a green irridescent and look black on the sides but it's really just dark green and they are friendly. We intended to get a duck to keep the duckling company but now, OMG. we have a petting zoo in one side of the coop. The chickens on the other side don't know what to think about it and one of the little tiny oegb's decided he was going to show the tom turkey who's boss. That little bird was about as big as the turkeys foot. lol

We have plastic totes all over the place with feed in them. Each one holds50 - 100 pounds of feed. The two by the big coop hold 100 lbs each, the one for the goat holds 50 at a time, them the ones in the shed are starter which holds 100 at a time then the scratch 100 at a time and the layer crumbles is 100 at a time and the grower/finisher is also 100 at a time. I only keep a gallon icecream bucket of starter and one of layer and scratch grains in the house. I always have chicks in here especially in winter and I have a house chicken, she's gotta eat too.
We filled everything up this weekend and we'll see how far it goes. Now that we have 2 huge turkeys, probably not far. And he wanted me to get rid of most of the chickens because the feed bill was to high and he goes and gets 2 grown turkeys. He would have gotten the other two but he couldn't figure out where to put them on the way home. He had to buy a cage to put them in and i'm amazed he got them in it.
