Now 12 wk old cockerel with leg issues.

His joints are swollen; I have tried everything and he is worse now than ever. I have a hen bcm showing the same symptoms from the same bloodline as copper. I'll send photos. He is suffering today and closing his eyes when he tries to walk. I gave him aspirin 81mg.View attachment 1754147 View attachment 1754148 View attachment 1754150 View attachment 1754147 View attachment 1754148 View attachment 1754150
I'll send a pic of the hen she is limping as he started and holding her foot up

MS would be my guess. Is the effected hen around the same age as your cockrel? Saying guess because a bunch of things can cause these symptoms. If it is MS about all you can do is sanitize your waterers. I use normal bleach, a teaspoon to a gallon. In some cases people use antibiotics like tylosin but that would be a last resort.:)

Have you given any vitamin B complex for riboflavin, in case he has a deficiency? I would give him 1/4 tablet daily for 2 weeks to see if it helps him stop sitting on his hocks. The swollen joints sound like either the MS or viral tenosynovitis. Here are a few links to read:

The wraps were removed yesterday. I have a hen now showing the same symptoms. Just the copper marans seem to be affected so far the wyandotte hens are fine.

They have all been getting a complete grower feed since week 9
Photo or brand of the grower feed?
Can you get a picture of the knee joints? Is there fluid in the joints along with swelling?

It's a grower feed from a local feed store. It doesn't have anything on it but the logo. They told me it was a complete mix. He also gets treats like fresh greens, corn and oats in small quantities as well as pasta and rice sometimes.

O.k. but you don't have an "analysis" of the feed - how much protein and calcium does it contain?
Those 2 things is what I would want to know. imho, growing birds need 18-20% protein and minimum calcium.
Vitamins/minerals can be "supplemented" I suppose, but personally I would prefer to have an analysis to see what's in the feed.
For the time being i would cut all those treats - give a little egg, fish or meat as a treat instead.

Ok will do that sounds like a good idea for a protein boost. Thanks for the advice, this is my first flock and I've never encountered any other conditions other than splay leg or spraddle leg before.
