Some breeds of dog CAN control coyotes (Hungarian pulis?) and around here everyone with sheep has donkeys. It costs no more to feed a donkey than a sheep, and will not tolerate coyotes, to the point of kicking and biting them to death. Smart coyotes NEVER go around a donkey. I'm so sorry about your roo, when coyotes establish, free-ranging is impossible. There will be more than one, sadly. We have them, and most people here accept the fact that biosecurity is vital. Those who do not, have lost their flocks, though there are a couple od %$#@! tough roosters that have survived.
