Some breeds of dog CAN control coyotes (Hungarian pulis?) and around here everyone with sheep has donkeys. It costs no more to feed a donkey than a sheep, and will not tolerate coyotes, to the point of kicking and biting them to death. Smart coyotes NEVER go around a donkey. I'm so sorry about your roo, when coyotes establish, free-ranging is impossible. There will be more than one, sadly. We have them, and most people here accept the fact that biosecurity is vital. Those who do not, have lost their flocks, though there are a couple od %$#@! tough roosters that have survived.

Shoot them or have somebody come and do it for you. They will keep returning to eat. We had a problem once and after the chickens they moved onto my cats then to my baby goats. You must kill them or have them trapped and relocated far away by animal control.

We keep large dogs (southern black mouth cur) to keep coyotes out of our yard, and still at times they are a problem. They will not only catch your chickens but your cats and small house dogs. It's difficult for just one dog to keep them away as they will kill large dogs too. Several times our dogs have had to be stitched up due to attacks. Each time we then must quarantine our dogs to safe guard against rabies. And even worse they will breed with any stray dogs in the community which makes even a tougher problem as these coy dogs aren't afraid of humans. As bad as it sounds a dead coyote is the best kind.

Someone in our area found a cave up in the hills with numerous cat and dog collars....along with the bones. We have a very large population of coyotes here but I have never seen one personally. I read the other day where someone posted about the coyotes killing her Great Pyrenese!

We heard a pack of them howling one night and every dog in the neighborhood took up the call and it was beautiful! I probably wouldn't feel it was so pretty if they attacked my chickens, though!

Thankfully, I have two real tough dogs that repel all predators.

I just flew out my back door because my aussie was going nuts barking at the back fence. He can't see but he must have heard something or smelled it. No sign of anything and all the birds are locked up but I'm on high alert. We haven't seen one in our area yet, but we've heard them and we have had a fox.

Oh man, I hope you guys don't have any coyotes or foxes. The only way to get rid of them is to shoot them. Are your ducks locked up? Because something could jump into their pen...I lost 13 of my ducks to who knows what in just a 6 hour period! I hope your babies are safe

Our yard is fenced and my three male (neutered though) dogs urinate around the perimeter. The adult hens free range but the ducks are penned and the babies are not outside at all. I know none of this is predator proof but it does deter them some.
