2 years ago I lost all my strawberries over the winter and gave up on them. that spring I found 5 plants as I was tilling and moved them to a corner of my garden and they have multiplied to an area about 4x12, and are spitting out runners that I have been putting back with the rest. I know that I'm supposed to cut the plants back in the fall but what do I do now as they seem to be done with the runners. Thanks

Wish I could help, but this is my first year with strawberries. The plant I bought hasn't produced any runners yet. Maybe its lonely, or in the wrong type of pot. Oh well, I guess I'll see what it decides to do.

I containered strawberries in very large pots this spring. We've had decent production, and likewise, have runners sprouting everywhere. They're trailing over a number of my other container veggies and herbs. I haven't any idea regarding your (in ground) situation, or whether to trim mine back and attempt to greenhouse them in fall/winter, either. This is the first attempt at strawberries I've undertaken. -would love to know how to winter them as well.

They need a heavy layer of straw mulch once they die back in the fall for the winter so that they dont freeze. I put in new plants this spring. They are putting out runners like you wouldnt believe!!! I may have to start a new bed again next spring the way they are going right now. :)

Don't layer with anything but straw. I used leaves on mine that's how I lost almost all of them. Straw is cheap. I'll run mine over with the lawn mower when they start dying back, then put the straw on them.
