I am a fairly experienced Hatcher with good results the past few years (Brinsea incubator) and decided to go big by purchasing quality eggs to incubate. I had half my incubator with FBCMarans and half with Appenzeller Spitzhaubens. At day 9 I saw all 9 of my Apps were fertile and well. On day 22...Marans nearly all hatched. Apps did not. One App emerged on day 23. As the day grew on, I candled a few and saw one in airsack...the others all below the surface, appeared dead.
I went in to the solo living App to find it weak, but moving. I am sure I saved it. I placed it back in the incubator, cuddled in the egg with a few more newborns to chirp and encourage him. The next morning he/she was fluffy and able to walk! So far so good hours later. My question for those who really know your stuff, WHY would my Marans emerge and the Apps all die near day 16-18! I’m sick over it. Very sad. Help!
Note: my incubator read specific and correct temps and humidity the entire time. I didn’t lift the lid other than my one candling day- filling the water through a hole with funnel and dropper.

Do you know what would make THEM suffocate and not the others, though?
What makes a fertile egg ‘not as healthy for hatching?’
When I incubate the eggs, I everyday stop the incubator for half an hour till 5-6 days before hatching. Embryos need more air to breathe. As you said, you didn,t open you incubator.

perhaps the apps need more an air then marans

I know my English is too bad
