Hi, I posted on the previous page what happened once the tester was at my house if you want to read it. If you need more help, just PM me.

I just reread that your post. oops. Do they test all the birds or just some?

Hi I think how many they test is probably different for each state for Washington for anything under 1000 they test I believe 25 percent with the minimum being 30 if I remember correctly I think over a 1000 they do like ten percent.

In kentucky, they test all the birds that are over 4 months, with the minimum being 30.

I checked around and found out the agriculture official in Springfield told me that the tests are no cost to me. Soooooooo, I am giving him my name, address and phone number so he can have a NPIP certified person to do my birds. He also said it will not involved with NAIS, that he respects my decision NOT to be into NAIS. I have an interested customer in WA and VA, so NPIP is required so I figured it would be my best shot to sell hatching eggs, eating breakfast eggs (locally) and chicks and started birds locally and out of state.

I also asked about being an NPIP tester as well, and he said there is no cost to be in classes but have to buy my own testing box. The course starts around March/April. I will get more details later when it is confirmed. Is it hard to be a tester? What is your experience?

Do the testers get paid??? I can not see driving locally and all over the state in my own pocket. It has to be some kind of reimbursement on the NPIP program. Besides, how did NPIP get their money if we do not pay anything for the tests on our birds?

Anything I need to know before the testers come? I know the runs are muddy and wet but the coop got wet as well from the window and door trickle in water. Any set up I need to make? Anything to make testers more comfortable and quickly and faster for both of us so we do not take any more time necessary for him to do the next job?

I have some of those same questiosn myself, and I also called and got sent an envelope, being told the tester for the area would call me.

If you find out anything, keep us updated? If you think this issue is wooly and evasive on being answered correctly, try getting testing for waterfowl...there are so many different answers out there! I am also hoping I will be able to do the class but am wondering what the responsibilities of becoming a tester are. And NO NAIS for me either.

In Florida it is free. They come out, put on plastic disposable boots and take a look around to see how many birds. I have a lot of birds... like 300, so they only test so many and they do not test birds from Hatchery stock since the hatchery is tested... They prick the bird in a vein on the wing and put it on a slab, add something and see what it looks like. They also swab the mouth. here in Florida they test for P & T only. They will send you the blood results of your birds, but are only interested in those two illnesses. If your bird has something else it is up to you how to treat etc.... They send you your card and say see ya next year..... Nothing scary.

In every state all mature birds are tested for PT, With AI only a percentage is tested...You may have had a lazy tester, I've seen that many times..Did you just get tested for PT or did you have your flock certified with NPIP?

I'm a tester, its easy, the worst thing is buying the antigan every year, only one company makes it and its a 1,000 test bottle. in WI the testers are independent,so any the cost of testing is up to the tester not NPIP

I test for the state of Ga, If I do happen to use a full bottle of antigen that also means I have to restock with bands $80.00 per thousand, I buy my antigen from the state at $60.00 per bottle
