NPIP to ship live birds

Hi I have seen at various auction sites when people post live birds for sale that they are NPIP certified. Do you have to be NPIP certified to sell chicks or adult birds? If so is it a nation wide rule or does it vary from state to state? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not NPIP certified, but it's my understanding that you have to be to ship any live birds or hatching eggs. Maybe one of our breeders will jump in with more details....

Most states you need to have NPIP status. Some ask for additional testing for AI, MS, MG, PT, etc. Here is a list of exactly what is needed for each state: http://www.bah.state.mn.us/animals/poultry/exports.html
