The trilogy of posts relating to the mystery chicken. Who is actually named Plucky Nugget or just Nugget for short.

She's very much an enigma. Since November she was running on the streets and hiding under cars. We have a serious coyote problem in my area so it's a miracle she's lasted that long.

I came across Nugget when I was out playing with my dog in the yard. Cars honking and naturally being the nosy neighbor I am I went to investigate.

And there she was...this raggedy chicken clucking and screaming in the street. I managed to corner her against a bush. After she flew clear over my head twice mind you and took her home.

I've made posts and checked social media pages. No one is missing this chicken. So I've made the choice to adopt her.

She's actually quite a handful. Haha Very inquisitive and loves sticking her beak quite literally everywhere. She's a tad skittish but she enjoys quiet moments of sunbathing together. She will drop and lay pretty much anywhere.

Sorry for the mass posts. I'm absolutely thrilled to have her and quite frankly no one understands having an attachment to a chicken like you would a dog.

Are you kidding me? I think chickens can be way better than dogs at getting what they want. I consider myself a chicken slave and it's sad, actually. 😆So glad Nugget found you and you are enjoying her company!

Nugget is a beautiful and lucky girl! And, without a doubt, you are a good-hearted and caring person who is about to find out what it means to be owned by a chicken.

Welcome to BYC where NOTHING you do to make your chickens happy, healthy or more comfortable will surprise us! Thanks for saving Nugget and for joining our flock.

BTW, people will probably tell you soon that Nugget needs other chicken friends to be happy. That's often very true. However, she's been on her own for a while, and sometimes, adding a "friend" doesn't work out. I have a "house chicken" -- long story -- who doesn't do well with other chickens. My last attempt to house her with another bird resulted in a bloody face for the new roommate. But she will climb on the sofa with the me, the cat and the dog. She's found her own flock. Nugget may be perfectly happy with you (and, maybe your dog).
