Number 2 Dog Dead

I went to a call teh other day where a Kid shot his Neighbors ( half Mile away it was the country ) Husky, The Husky has been to tehre house in the past and this time was in the Chicken coop and killed over a dozen of there Chickens, We ended up arresting the Neighbor because became so enraged, A Check with animal control showed that this was a common Problem with him and his dogs. In NY it is legal to protect your Live stock.

Christmas day we let our chickens and guineas out to free range for only the 2nd time. Guineas started raising a ruckus and when I looked out there was a young dog carrying off one of my chickens. I hollered and he dropped the chicken and she made her way back to the house. Luckily she's going to be ok. Lost some feathers and had a couple of small tooth marks on her but nothing serious. We got the chickens and guineas back in their pen and about 30 min later the dog was back. He didn't stick around, but about an hr afterwards was back AGAIN, this time sniffing around and trying to find a way into the pen. Hubby hated to do it, but he shot the dog. We knew that was the only way to keep him from getting to the chickens when we couldn't be there to keep him from it. He didn't have a collar but I'm presuming he belonged to a neighbor somewhere around me. I live out in the middle of 20 acres so he came from some neighboring farm. No telling how many other chickens he had nabbed from somewhere else.

I don't blame you in the slightest for what you had to do. I'm just sorry both you and the dog got put in that position. It's one of the saddest parts about owning livestock, and it's not fun. It stinks that people can't take care of their animals better and didn't care what their dog was doing.
