I've had good experiences with Idea. All alive and healthy, and meaties all in our tummies now.
After reading all the reviews so to say, one thing to consider is where the hatchery is located. If the birds are traveling 200 miles to get to your home from one hatchery, and 4000 miles from another hatchery, that can make a big difference in the experience. Pick one closer to you rather than further.
i used texas poultry (i think they go thru Privett) and I am very happy so far!! EXCELLENT customer service! All alive, one xtra! 18 days old now and doing great! Also, what I am most interested in is who has the BEST QUALITY of birds?!
Yes, Texas Poultry just resells for Privett. I just received some chicks from them and they were very happy and healthy when they arrived. Two died a day later, but they'd thrown two extras in the box (probably roos), so I still ended up with 50 chicks for $119.
I've had even better luck with chicks from Ideal. Very fluffy, active, chicks that grow quickly.
As another poster said, the key is ordering from the closest hatchery. They less time they're in transit, they better off they'll be.
In quality, meaning how well they survive, or how well they conform to show standards? If it's show standards, you'll have to go to a breeder. Sometimes you can get lucky with hatchery stock running in 4H type divisions, but not often. Many hatcheries share the same breeder lines too.
I ordered from cackle last year I was very happy with them. I ordered 25 german spitzhauban I got 5 roos the rest hens. I ordered 25 white sultans great quailty the only negative thing I can say is they are a little slow. I guess because they are family run and that they get so many orders. I would reccomend Cackle in a heart beat.

Good to hear- because I just got done ordering 30 new baby girls from them (Welp)to arrive the first week of March! I hatched so many chicks last year and sold so many of the young hens, that I ended up keeping mostly young Roos. They are gorgeous now, but I have too many! So I had to order some matching girls for them!
Thanks for the good reference!
